It shouldalways be about the client,” she says. Theirlistings range from $300,000 to over$15,000,000, though Sue’s average transactionof $1.4 million puts her in the luxury category.She defers, saying, “the definition of theluxury market is changing,” and she prefers toprovide the best match for each client’s needsregardless of the price.Sue De Legge got her start in real estate whenher commitment to, yes, family, would allow herthe time to make it work. When their childrenhad completed high school, her husband, a realestate investment broker, suggested that realestate would be a good fit. Sue learned early onthat it was a relationship-based business andtook the time to talk with open house visitors.She could discern who were buyers, who mightbe sellers, and how to approach them. Suecomments, “It’s an art to engage peoplesuccessfully and not turn them away.”Sue’s style is defined by her hands-on,personal approach to the buying and sellingprocesses. She and Gina take only thenumber of clients that they can handlethemselves; no handing off or delegating. “Ifyou treat someone poorly or don’t returnphone calls, that gets around fast,” sheexplains. They prefer to be advisors ratherthan salespeople, alerting them whensomething isn’t quite right, and achieving thebest match for their needs. Sue is especiallymindful that this is the biggest purchase ofmost clients’ lives, and she treats it as if itwere her own.Sue loves the San Diego area and rarely straysfar, even for vacations. “There is so much todo here, and it’s so beautiful,” she says. Sueand her family settled here from the Midwestlargely because of the weather and beauty ofthe area. It’s home now, and it’s clear to theirclients that they would not want to beanywhere else.
