program overviewSpa<strong>in</strong> is a vibrant democracy and a strong partner <strong>in</strong> NATO. The <strong>SU</strong>Madrid program has been carefully designed to help students make <strong>the</strong>most of <strong>the</strong> city’s <strong>in</strong>stitutions, location, and culture.You’ll beg<strong>in</strong> <strong>your</strong> learn<strong>in</strong>g adventure with one of several dist<strong>in</strong>ctSignature Sem<strong>in</strong>ars. These sem<strong>in</strong>ars vary by field of study/<strong>in</strong>terestand language level, and <strong>your</strong> sem<strong>in</strong>ar will prepare you for <strong>the</strong> semesterahead (see Field Studies section for descriptions). courses<strong>SU</strong> Madrid CenterThis option is for students who wish to take all <strong>the</strong>ir courses at <strong>Syracuse</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s center <strong>in</strong>Madrid. Students may take courses taught <strong>in</strong> Spanish, English, or a comb<strong>in</strong>ation of both. <strong>SU</strong> Madrid Center & LiberalArts (UAM)Students with advanced Spanish languageproficiency <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> liberal arts courses(<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g history, literature, philosophy,political science, and sociology) enroll <strong>in</strong>classes at <strong>the</strong> Universidad Autónoma deMadrid (UAM). You will study alongsideMadrid university students and take classestaught entirely <strong>in</strong> Spanish. Most studentsopt to take one to three classes at UAM and<strong>the</strong>ir o<strong>the</strong>r classes at <strong>the</strong> <strong>SU</strong> Madrid Center.This option is available for spr<strong>in</strong>g semester(January-June) or for <strong>the</strong> entire academicyear (September-June).<strong>SU</strong> Madrid Center &Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g (UPM)The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM)is Spa<strong>in</strong>’s lead<strong>in</strong>g university for technicalresearch.
