The Panther linksters went 25-18 last season and will be again lead by Head Coach Ryan Wagner. “We finished last year with our best record since I have been here,” said Panther Coach Wagner. “We had a great duel and triangular record last year but struggled under pressure at the tournaments last year. We will have to replace some solid seniors that graduated. “We bring back a group with some experience but we will need to become more consistent and we need to have some of them to step up into some new roles. We have a group of kids that could be pretty solid if we have some kids come through. We have a nice group of golfers returning and if we improve on our short game as a team, we will have a very successful season.” The Panthers’ top two golfers coming back are junior Caleb Anderson and sophomore Mitchell Carroll. Coach Wagner says they both will need to be in the low 40’s consistently for the team to have success this year. The other returner is junior Colton Florea and he was a consistent mid-40 golfer before the season ended last year. The maroon-and-white has seniors Nathan Chambers, Brady Otis and Nathan Nall that all have experience and hopes that these three could possibly fill out the top six golfers. Junior Kyle Hauswirth and sophomore Cody Goetz could also step up and contribute to the squad. Other players out for golf are senior Luke Wilhite, junior Scott Johnson along with freshmen Josh Hilbert, Andy Hauswirth and Johnny Studer. Head Coach Ryan Wagner will be the head mentor for the squad this spring. The Panthers were 18-16 last season. “We bring back three letter winners that gained a lot of experience last year and had their ups and downs,” said Panther Coach Wagner. “Alesha and Whitney both return as juniors and Melissa was all-conference last year as a freshman. We will then have to count on two freshmen that have little or no golfing experience to round out the team. “We might not have a team score to start the year, it will depend how those two develop and if they want to golf in meets or not. We are hoping to have a very good team and try to improve on our 18-16 record from a year ago. That was an improvement for us a year ago but we want to keep improving as indi- The Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne Panther boys’ track team is small in numbers with five athletes out but the maroon-and-white return a pair of veteran experience runners. Junior Jason Carroll scored all of the Panthers’ nine points at state finishing third in the 100-meter dash in 11.33 and was sixth in the 200 with his time of 23.07. Brent DeGroote takes over as the new head coach for the Panthers replacing long time coach Ken Burrington. “We are low in numbers but what we lack in numbers, we will make up with speed,” said Coach DeGroote. “It all starts with Jason. He has been working hard strengthening his knee after his football injury and he is already surpassing our expectations. “Jay returns in the hurdle events and comes into track season in excellent condition. Adam has not been able to participate in track the past two seasons but broke the junior high record in the high jump so we are glad to have him along. “The two freshmen come out of the blocks strong and are hard workers. It should be an exciting season and we can not wait to see them on the track.” Two Panthers are returning lettermen for the maroon-and-white. Senior Jay Nissen just missed qualifying for the Class 1A state meet in both the 110 and 400-meter hurdles last spring. Junior Jason Carroll is one of the best sprinters in not only the area but in Class 1A. The new members to the squad are junior Adam Thompson along with freshmen Matthew Burns and Randy Cram. The Panthers open the outdoor season on April 1 at the Indian Relays in Forest City. Corwith- Wesley-LuVerne will host the annual Panther Relays at Britt on April 12. D7 Eagle girls’ track returns five state qualifiers The Algona Upper Des Moines Thursday, April 1, 2010 The North Sentral Kossuth Eagle girls’ track team numbers 19 strong this spring. There are 15 returning letter winners, including five state qualifiers in four different events. Veteran Head Coach Tammy Geitzenauer will return as the head mentor for the blue-and-gold thinclads and will be again assisted by Duyane Von Bank. “We have a great group of girls over the years that have had a great work ethic and were strong competitors and this year’s squad is no exception,” said Eagle Coach Geitzenauer. “We have almost 20 girls checking in this season with 15 of them being letter winners. “This is a year we will show strength in the areas of sprints, middle distance, hurdle and field events. These girls are very willing to do what it takes to be successful. They will be very competitive at every meet they compete in. “Bekah is looking forward to qualifying for the Drake Relays again and go to state for the fourth straight year. We have everyone returning from our state 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays and three returning from the state qualifying distance medley relay.” Leading the returning state qualifiers is senior high jumper Rebekah Rolling. She has placed three times at state, taking ninth as a freshman The North Sentral Kossuth Eagle boys’ track team will be very young this season with six returning lettermen. The team will look for improvement as the year progresses. The Eagle boys will be coached by veteran coach Troy Adams this season. He will be assisted this spring by Duyane Von Bank. “We will be young this year with just six letter winners back,” said North Sentral Kossuth Coach Adams. “Alex is a three-year lettermen and Keith is a two-year letter winner. Cody will throw the shot and discus and Austin will be our hurdler. Brett and Zach will run the sprint events for us. “The freshmen will mainly make up the distance events with the exception of Jake Clark, Austin Hellman and Dustin, who will do some of the sprinting along with With everyone returning from a very successful team in 2009, the North Sentral Kossuth Eagle girls’ golf team looks for another banner season. The Eagles were 19-11 overall last season and were 19-3 in the Cornbelt Conference. The squad was conference runner-up last year. They will again be coached by Brooks Walters. “The girls are all back from last year and we look for an even better year this spring,” said Eagle Coach Walters. “This team has a lot of varsity experience and should continue to lower their scores as the year goes on this spring. “Hopefully the weather will and 12th both as a sophomore and last year. The quartet ran a 10:31.08 time in the 4 x 800 relay for 19th place and was clocked in 4:20.82 in the 4 x 400 event for 20th place, both school records. Valvick, Johnson and Langford also ran on the distance medley that placed 14th in 4:2901, also a school record. Other returning letter winners are seniors Ariel Runge and Corrin Rahm, juniors Cassuandra Blair, Kirsten Adams, Abby Ingalls and Stepahnie Ingalls along with sophomores Kelly Bormann, Cierra Brandt, Haley Lang and Kelsey Gerhart. Rounding out the roster are sophomore Jolene Bowman and freshmen Allie Ingalls, Sara Johnson, Jessie Isebrand and Collete Haag. A pair of athletes are gone from last year’s squad. Chris Rock, Dalton Guerdet and Caleb Villarreal are the seniors lost from last season’s track squad for the blue-and-gold. North Sentral Kossuth will open the 2010 outdoor season on April 1 at the Algona Early Bird Meet. The Eagles will host the John Larson Relays at Armstrong on April 29 and NSK EAGLES Brooke Baxter and Johansen will get some competition from other girls on the squad. Those players are senior Mindy Ryen, sophomores Marissa Crookshank and Taylor Richardson along with freshmen Andrea Fothergill, Marissa Doocy and Brittney Evans. North Sentral Kossuth will open the season on April 12 hosting North Iowa at the North Kossuth Golf Club in Bancroft.
