Ramadan of the EldersĤađrat recite Qur’an with my father for two years in the gatheringafter ‘Aśr, but never with anyone else. In the middle and last tendays of Ramadan, I saw my father recite three parts in tahajjud, something I never saw anyone else do.Ĥađrat also recited one and a quarter part in the voluntary śalātafter Maghrib. In the Ramadan of 1345/ March, 1927, I listened toone and a quarter part in the voluntary śalāt after Maghrib. Shāh‘Abd al-Qādir and Shaikh Syed Aĥmad [brother of Shaikh al-IslāmĤusain Aĥmad Madanī] were also in this congregation. Due tohis sickness, Shaikh Raipūrī sat for the voluntary śalāt but Ĥađrat, despite his old age and weakness, led standing.Ĥađrat always attended the completion [khatm] of Qur’an of thechildren from the Mīrat family [Ĥāfiż Faśiĥ al-Dīn, Hājī Wajihal-Dīn, and Shaikh Rashīd Aĥmad Śāĥib] because of their closeconnections with Ĥađrat. They made sure the child completed hisQur’an the night of the 20th of Ramadan so Ĥađrat could return[from Mīrat] and sit in i‘tikāf. Thus, Ĥađrat arrived in Mīrat onthe morning of the 19th and returned on the morning of the 20th.Ĥađrat first prayed obligatory śalāt in the masjid, then returned tothe house and prayed tarāwīĥ and witr behind his own imam. Then,he returned to the masjid to attend the ceremony [of completionof Qur’an]. Though tarāwīĥ was started late on the day of theceremony [in the masjid], they sometimes had to wait in the lastfour rak‘as for Ĥađrat to arrive at the masjid [i.e. because Ĥađrat’starāwīĥ was long].What Shaikh Mīratī wrote is true that after completing Badhl inRamadan of 1345/March 1927, the time Ĥađrat previously spent onBadhl was now spent in reciting Qur’an or reading Wafā al-Wafā. 58 AfterẒuhr, Ĥađrat recited one part to Amma jī in the women’s quarters.I couldn’t be with Ĥađrat at that time because of the veil [betweenherself and me]. It was extremely hot and the women’s quarter waslocated in the upper story, while the helpers resided in the groundfloor where all the food was cooked. Shaikh Mīrati wrote:t‘A58 An excellent book on the history of Madina by ‘Allāma Samhudī.121
