measures in place, e.g. intervention under the <strong>Adult</strong>s with Incapacity(Scotland) Act 2000 or the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act2003.It is good practice for all organisations to co-operate to assist inquiries, notonly those who have a duty to do so under Section 5 of the <strong>Adult</strong> Support and<strong>Protection</strong> (Scotland) Act 2007.3.11 Screening outcomesThe outcome of the screening process should establish whether:• the person meets the criteria for an adult at risk• actions are required to protect the adult and if so whether anyimmediate action is necessary• actions are required to protect or meet the needs of relevant others, forexample children residing with the adult at risk or the allegedperpetrator, or the needs of carers.3.12 Screening decisions and actionsDecisions regarding any follow up action will only be arrived at after a range ofinquiries have been carried out by the social work staff member andconsultation has taken place with the worker’s line manager (or alternativemanager if the line manager is not available).3.13 Screening does not meet 3 point criteriaIf the screening process identifies that the adult does not meet the criteria foran adult at risk of harm, actions may include:• referral for assessment under care management (subject to eligibilitycriteria)• if this is an open case, continue under care management, following areview of an existing care plan• referral to another appropriate agency• carer’s assessment, or• no further actionIn all cases the social worker will provide a written response to the referringagency outlining the reasons for the above decision. (Appendix 6)3.14 Screening does meet 3 point criteriaIf the decision is reached that the adult does meet the criteria of an adult atrisk of harm or further action under the <strong>Adult</strong> Support and <strong>Protection</strong>(Scotland) Act 2007 is necessary to establish whether the adult is at risk ofharm, then the team manager must change the status of the contact oroutcome on SWIFT to “<strong>Adult</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Investigation”.25
