The economic conditions in Irelandhelped maintain overall Cargo tonnage at 1998 levels - 45,000 tonnes. In 1999 the Cargodivision utilised the increased capacity on the airline’s scheduled operations and withdrew fromleased-in dedicated freighter operations.The product offering was also strengthened in 1999 with the introduction of an additionalA330 aircraft for the Los Angeles route and further A321 aircraft on European services.During the year, work was completed on new handling facilities in Shannon which streamlinedthe handling of freight containers and led to improved customer service.FuturaOur subsidiary Futura, which operates a successful charter operation from bases in Palma,Tenerife and Malaga, enjoyed another good year’s trading.Operating in a highly competitive market, the introduction of Boeing 737-800s, with extendedrange, has enabled the company to enter the Scandinavian market.13
