Burkina Faso1. Trends in HIV prevalenceCompared with Zimbabwe and Uganda, Burkina Faso’s HIV epidemic has been less severe(Figure 16). The estimated peak of the epidemic occurred in 1998, with a highest estimated HIVprevalence of 2.7% for women. This epidemic, since it was less severe, may therefore showdifferent patterns than those in Zimbabwe and Uganda. In comparison to the TFRs in the othertwo countries, Burkina Faso’s TFR fell after HIV prevalence stopped rising.
