Edel Hockey Sand-Obscured:
‘Low/No H 2 O®’ pitches for demanding users
The playing techniques currently in use in hockey owe their
origin to classic water-based hockey pitches. On traditional sandfilled
artificial turf hockey pitches, it would almost be impossible
to use such techniques without sustaining injuries. Edel Grass
has developed its ‘Low/No H O®’ sand-obscured hockey systems
2
with this in mind.
Our sand-obscured pitches are built on a soft sub base (see the
cross-section) and are designed using an LSR/NDR (Low Sliding
Resistance/Non Directional), micro-curled and Knit-d-Knit yarn
at a high density. The use of LSR/NDR yarn ensures that watering
is no longer a ‘must’ for a perfect performance. The club can
choose whether or not to install and use a sprinkler system.
Thanks to the micro-curled yarn, the stabilization sand is entirely
covered, and you play just as you would on a water-based pitch.
Moreover, Edel Hockey Sand-Obscured pitches ensure that ball
roll will be predictable and fast and makes it possible to employ
the playing techniques used on water-based pitches.
Our sand-obscured pitches employ a water management concept.
Special perforations and stabilizing sand ensure that the
water is retained for longer after sprinkling or natural rainfall, for
an optimum and long-lasting playing experience.
Our sand-obscured hockey systems are:
• Edel Hockey Triple-T Sand-Obscured (monofilament)
FIH National certification
• Edel Hockey Elite LSR/NDR (fibrillated)
FIH National certification
FIH National
certification
Edel Hockey Water-Based:
‘Low/No H 2 O®’ pitches for the absolute top
For hockey played at the very highest level, Edel ‘Low No H 2 O®’
water-based pitches are the best place to start. Whether it is a
question of ‘lifting’ the ball or the ‘tip-in’ during a slide, an Edel
Grass water-based pitch offers players maximum control of the
ball. These pitches have an unique integrated backing system,
are built on a top quality intermediary layer, that together, ensure
long term stability with perfect damping and shock absorption.
Edel Hockey water-based systems are designed with a LSR/
NDR (Low Sliding Resistance/Non Directional), micro-curled
and Knit-d-Knit yarn and produced at a maximum density.
The ‘micro-curl’ in the yarn not only ensures predictable and
fast ball roll, but also makes the playing characteristics of the
water-based pitch similar to a nylon pitch! Whilst its performance
meets the highest standards, the water management
system means very significant savings in the costs of water used
per match. This feature is particularly important in areas where
water conservation is critical. Special perforations ensure that
the water is retained for as long as possible after watering.
In short: Edel ‘Low/No H O®’ water-based pitches are a guarantee
2
of hockey at the highest level, with fast and spectacular action,
year in, year out, at a competitive cost!
Our water-based hockey systems are:
• Edel Hockey Triple-T System (monofilament)
FIH Global certification
• Edel Hockey Classic Tufted (fibrillated)
FIH Global certification
FIH Global
certification
Edel Grass hockey systems make room for a
sustainable future…
To satisfy growing demand for affordable and environmentally-
sound artificial turf systems for hockey, Edel
Grass has developed a ‘green’ sub-base for both renovations
and for newly built artificial turf hockey pitches. This
‘engineered’ system employs a Sports Layer of closed cell
foam which takes over the role of rubber granulate.
But it does more than that: the Sports Layer ensures that
the technical characteristics of the artificial turf hockey
system, such as shock absorption and energy restitution,
remain at the desired level for longer. This means
more comfortable play coupled with a lower risk of injury.
The Sports Layer also has three times the life expectancy
of an artificial turf hockey pitch and is available with an
additional heating system. In the long term, investment in
depth therefore ensures a return on investment.
Edel Hockey Elite LSR 24:
the sand-filled hockey systems
Sand-filled artificial turf pitches are the traditional systems for
hockey, and are still in general use. In the Netherlands, a leading
country in hockey, a soft layer consisting of dynamic base
and rubber granules, is laid on the foun dation layer. In other
countries, such as the UK, a 15 mm in-situ rubber shock pad or a
closed cell foam pad is laid on top of a porous macadam surface
or a dynamic base. The performance of the pitch, in particular its
shock absorption, is largely determined by these layers.
Edel Hockey Elite LSR 24 is laid on top of the sport-specific foundation
layers. Edel Hockey Elite LSR 24 employs LSR yarn with
a pile of 24 mm, which is filled and stabilised with only 20 mm
quartz sand for an even green pitch. The Low Sliding Resistance
yarn not only gives the pitch good playing characteristics, it
is also comfortable for the players and decreases the risk of
injuries.
The material is extremely wear-resistant, requires little maintenance
and is highly resistant to UV. Edel Hockey Elite LSR 24 offers
high quality at an attractive price, which makes Edel Hockey LSR
24 the most economical solution. Edel Grass has been installing
these pitches for many years worldwide, with great success.
Our sand-filled hockey systems are:
FIH National certification
• Edel Hockey Elite LSR 24 MF (monofilament)
