He was Superintendent of Maintenance for the State Police at their facility near FountainSquare on the south side of Indianapolis until 1940.In the 1920's he had joined the Indiana National Guard and received a commission (O-276579) and, in1940, was called to active duty as a Captain in the Quartermaster Corps of the Indiana 39th Division. Afterthe outbreak of the Second World War he remained in the Quartermaster Corps, but was assigned with theArmy Air Corps. He was assigned to Brookley Field, Mobile, Alabama until mid-1942 when he wasreassigned as Post Quartermaster at Patterson Field, Ohio. He subsequently was promoted to Major andLieutenant Colonel and assigned to the Air Service Command (now the Air Force Materiel Command). In1944 he was transferred to the Pacific Theatre with the Far East Air Service Command where he served inHollandia, New Guinea; Biak; the Philippines; and Okinawa. He returned to the United States in late 1945after the conclusion of the war. He left the Army at that time and returned to Indianapolis. However, in 1946he returned to active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel and was briefly assigned to the Brooklyn Army Base in NewYork. In 1947 he was transferred to Fort Mason, San Fransisco where he was Chief of Graves RegistrationsDivision which was responsible for the return of American war dead from the Pacific. In 1949 he wastransferred to Marburg, Germany as Commander of the Quartermaster Reclamation Depot where he remaineduntil 1952. He was transferred to the Oakland Army Depot in 1952 and purchased a house in San Mateo,California. He was assigned at Oakland Army Base until being transferred to Korea in 1955. Although aLieutenant Colonel on active duty, he was a Colonel in the Army Reserve. Having served 20 years active dutyand 10 years in the reserve, he retired as a Colonel in 1957.
