The Recreation Department <strong>of</strong>fers a one-week day camp during<br />
Spring Break for children ages 6-11. The camp provides a wide<br />
variety <strong>of</strong> activities planned for youth including games, arts and<br />
crafts, and a field trip. Each child must bring a lunch. A daily<br />
snack will be provided. The camp is held at the <strong>Norwalk</strong> Arts<br />
& Sports Complex, Multi-Purpose Room. Registration begins<br />

The Hargitt House Museum is a two-story Victorian Eastlake home<br />
built in 1891. It is <strong>Norwalk</strong>’s own nationally registered landmark.<br />
The Museum contains Johnston-Hargitt family heirlooms as well<br />
as glimpses from <strong>Norwalk</strong>’s past and other memorabilia.<br />
The Museum is brought to life through docent led tours given by<br />
the Friends <strong>of</strong> Hargitt House docents. Admission is free; however,<br />
donations are always welcome. Please Note: The Museum may<br />
be closed in inclement weather; please call on the day <strong>of</strong> your<br />

to the public. The Johnston-Hargitt House<br />

visit to the historic Sproul Museum located in the heart <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Norwalk</strong> Park. The Sproul Museum was built in 1874 and<br />
was home to the founder <strong>of</strong> <strong>Norwalk</strong>, Gilbert H. Sproul. The<br />
Museum contains many artifacts depicting the development<br />
<strong>of</strong> the city as well as Sproul family heirlooms. There is no<br />

Be a Museum Docent! (Ages 18 & Older)<br />
Docents are guides and storytellers. If you enjoy sharing<br />
stories, information, and talking to people, become a<br />
docent! The Johnston-Hargitt House and Sproul Museums<br />
are seeking interested people to train as Museum docents.<br />
A three-month commitment is required. Please call 929-<br />

no cost (bring your own lock). Swim diapers must be worn by all children three years and younger, and are available for<br />

Youth Intervention<br />
Youth Intervention Services are <strong>of</strong>fered through the Recreation and<br />
Park Services Department. Community Workers Anthony Garcia<br />
and Ken Menchaca provide counseling and intervention strategies<br />
to adolescents (and their families) who are at risk <strong>of</strong> school failure,<br />
gang involvement, delinquency, or other negative behaviors.<br />
In order to succeed, participants must commit to following an<br />
individually designed intervention program that may include:<br />
• Getting involved in a well-structured and supervised activity<br />
such as <strong>Norwalk</strong>’s Teen Alliance Program<br />
• Attend school regularly and work hard to improve grades<br />
• Be willing to learn how to eliminate negative influences<br />
(i.e., friends or peers) or activities<br />
• Participate in developing strategies to improve relationships<br />

Youth Mariachi Classes (Ages 7-18)<br />
Classes are held on Tuesdays at the Cultural Arts Center.<br />

Folklorico at a reasonable cost. Participants must provide<br />

General Information<br />
Registration procedures are aimed at giving priority to <strong>Norwalk</strong><br />
residents without excluding individuals from other communities.<br />
Early registration is encouraged so that class minimums can<br />
be reached one week prior to the first class meeting. Classes<br />
may be cancelled if enrollment does not meet the minimum<br />
requirements. Mail in registration is not accepted.<br />
Continuing students are not guaranteed a spot. Fees are to be<br />
paid in full at the time <strong>of</strong> registration. A $5 non-resident fee is<br />
charged per person, and applies to all classes.<br />
A $4 adminitrative charge will be assessed for each requested<br />
refund or transfer. Refund and transfer requests will only<br />
be granted prior to the second regularly scheduled class<br />
meeting. If a class is cancelled by the Department, a refund<br />
will automatically be processed, and mailed to you. Please<br />
allow 4-6 weeks for the refund to be received.<br />
