Recommendations:1. <strong>Greenfield</strong> should work on connecting trails between Highland Park and Rocky Mountainarea, as recommended in the 2006 Open Space and Recreation Plan, to accommodate thehigh demand for use of recreational trails in this area.2. <strong>Greenfield</strong> should consider hiring an employee to oversee the Rocky Mountain andHighland Park areas in order to maintain trails, and help prevent litter and inappropriateuses of the area.3. <strong>Greenfield</strong> could pursue funding to complete a management plan for Highland Pondwhich could include an analysis of the possibility of reinstating public access andfacilities for use of the pond for ice skating.4. The City of <strong>Greenfield</strong> should work with the Recreation Department to assess themunicipal golf course as a potential site for recreational needs within town, including acost estimate of upfront clearing or other land management and ongoing maintenance.5. The City of <strong>Greenfield</strong> may want to consider developing a recreation plan focused on thiswhole area, for a comprehensive approach to assessing management, maintenance,protection status, potential trail linkage opportunities, and financing needs of the multipleproperties in this area for their recreation and natural values. State PARC grants throughthe Division of Conservation Services may be a potential source of funding for outdoorrecreational projects that allow public access, such as the renovation of the golf course orthe ice skating pond.6.
