This extracredit is in the form of a $50 value Hostess Reward Certificate (HRC).There is a $5.00 fee anytime you issue an HRC. Our standard programallows you the option of giving up to two $50 HRCs to a hostess of aqualified show. Awarding both would provide her with $100 in shoppingcredit for a total $10.00 fee. Add the HRC amount to the credit thehostess earns on Star Two to arrive at her total shopping credit award.Directors use their discretion as to how to maximize the power of the HRCs. Often, they use a certificate to securethe booking and date it where they want/need a show, or they issue a challenge to hostess and goal her to earn theextra credit. The challenge may be to pre-arrange a booking, to have a certain number of attendees, and/or to obtainabsentee orders in advance of the show. Sometimes, the Director opts to pay the fee; other times the Director passesthe fee on to the hostess. Just be sure to explain any offer clearly to avoid any confusion.HRCs provide you with the flexibility you need to create a customized challenge. But thank you.” (I didn’t want a stranger looking at my underwear… LOL!)He did however insist on taking my dress to be steamed! (Nice touch! I could get used to this!)Later that evening, I met up with all the other <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong>rs and Home Office executives, and we all went bylimo to a really lovely restaurant; it was so much fun! When I won this trip and heard that big celebrities weregoing to be there, I was very excited; but in the back of my mindI thought I would only see the stars from a distance. Boy, was Iwrong! We met, talked with, ate with, and mingled with some ofthe most famous women in the world. We were socializing witheveryone. I don’t have time to watch much TV, so I didn’t knowwho half the people were. So, I devised a plan; I made friends withthe cameraman. I acted like I knew who everyone was, presentedthem with a gift of our jewelry, and asked if I could get my picturetaken with them. It worked! I had a photo taken with JacksonHurst, from Drop Dead Diva). If you don’t know who he is, look himup… What a hunk! Actress, Katy Mixon, and I had our picture takentogether and it was printed in Variety magazine this month; veryexciting! Katy’s famous for her roles in “Four Christmases”, “Stateof Play”, “All about Steve” and “The Quiet”. What a beautiful lady!All of us <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong> girls posed for a photo with Anne Hathaway!She loved the jewelry so much that she came back for more! Ipersonally gifted Amy Adams with our beautiful Signature braceletin jet. Eva Mendes was very friendly; she smiled and spoke tome. There were so many stars in our gifting station that you could hardly move. So many of the celebritiescomplimented us and said we had the most popular booth. Amy Praffrath wore her Glitterati ring on E-Newsthat same evening after the event. It’s a sure bet that <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong> will be getting lots of recognition from thisexperience.Four hundred people attended this “by invitation only” event. At the luncheon, only one table separated usfrom Katie and Suri Holmes; and we sat just a few feet away from Jennifer Garner’s table. The 2010 “Powerof Women” Lifetime Impact Honorees were Katie Holmes, Amy Adams, Diane <strong>Lane</strong>, Eva Mendes, SuzanBymel and Jennifer Garner. These women were honored for their work on behalf of the causes closest totheir hearts. It was an honor just to be in their presence.After the event was over Beth Flath and I went to have tea in the Polo lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel. Ilooked to my right, about five feet away, sat Woody Harrelson. He looked straight at me! I really wantedto ask for a picture but didn’t want to intrude. Darn! If I could do it again, I probably would ask for a picture.Beth looked to her right and saw Latoya Jackson sitting across from her on the other side of the restaurant!The entire day was a jaw-dropping experience! Yes, I guess you could say, I am ‘star-struck’!The Hotel was full of celebrities. You never wanted to go to your room because you were afraid you wouldmiss seeing someone famous! Although I never did get to see Regis Philbin in person, it was amazing justknowing that he was staying in the same hotel, one floor down from us. After the tea, the other girls and Iwent to a few other famous sites in Beverly Hills and we finished the evening strolling down Rodeo Drive!What an adventure! It took me about a week after I got home to come back down to earth and to realizethat the star treatment had ended and that no one at home wanted to unpack my luggage for me! A Dream Come True!Submitted by Senior Division manager, Beth FlathPOWER OF WOMEN EVENTOn September 30th, 2010, I fulfilled one of my childhooddreams…I was privileged to be one of the four executivesselected to represent Jewels by <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong> at Variety’s Powerof Women luncheon in Beverly Hills. Coming from a smalltown in South Carolina with only one stop light growing up,I always have been fascinated by fashion, celebrities andthe latest Hollywood gossip. I even attended college andmajored in Mass Communications with hopes of becomingan entertainment reporter. Since that didn’t work out, this was the next best thing! Yet, never in my wildestdreams could have imagined it would come true.Not only was I whisked away to Beverly Hills, I was treated like a queen the entire time. Through thegenerosity of the LeVin family, I stayed at the luxurious Beverly Hills Hotel, enjoyed delicious meals and, onthe day of the luncheon I was able to participate in the Gifting Suite as well as attend the prestigious eventitself. It was totally surreal to be able to interact with A-list celebrities and such influential executives fromVariety Magazine and Lifetime television <strong>network</strong>. Seeing how they responded to our jewelry and were soexcited about our participation was even more fulfilling. We were able to gift jewelry to Amy Adams, AnneHathaway, Maria Bello, Jennifer Garner, Katie Holmes, Eva Mendes, Suzan Bynell, Kerry Washington, RickiLake, Maria Menunos, Jackson Durst and others from the cast of ‘Drop Dead Diva’, and many more. Thatwas truly one of the highlights for me, as was listening to the honorees stories and heartfelt speeches asthey accepted their awards for their philanthropy. I was especially excited to connect with folks from theDizzy Feet Foundation which is Katie Holmes’ charity. It focuses on raising funds for dance education inthe arts. Coming from a background as a dancer myself and now being the mother of a dancer, I know howcostly dance tuition, shoes, costumes, competition fees, etc. can be. The Dizzy Feet Foundation raisesfunds and provides scholarships to under-privileged kids so they will have a chance to live their dream ofdance. I am very excited to have made this connection which is near and dear to my heart and am lookingforward to partnering with them in future fundraising efforts.After the luncheon, Cheryl Akers and I stopped at the world-famous Polo Lounge which is frequented bymany celebrities. While there, we spotted Latoya Jackson and Woody Harrelson. Too bad we were toochicken to ask for a picture or autograph! We were also able to experience In and Out Burger (best burgerI’ve ever had), Crumbs Bakery (best cupcake I’ve ever had), and sightsee on Rodeo Drive. It truly was theexperience of a lifetime and I am so grateful that I was able to be a part of it. Thank you again to the LeVinfamily for allowing me this blessing and for the many opportunities you have presented me with since joiningthis fabulous company. I always say, “<strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong> is where it’s at!” and after this incredible experience, thatcouldn’t be more true! If someonewould have told me a year ago that I would be rubbingshoulders with Amy Adams and Anne Hathaway, I wouldhave said “No way”. I don’t know that I could have evendreamed of being part of an event like The Power ofWomen Conference for myself, but Jewels by <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong>dreamed it for me and made it come true!We received the royal treatment from our amazing hostsTara, Arthur and Scott LeVin. We were surrounded byYasmin Gonzalez with actress, Amy Adamsactors throughout the entire day; they were everywhere!They treated us like they knew us! At the booth where wewere showing and gifting our jewelry to them, I was stopped and asked several times, “Hello! How are you?”…. “Howhave you been?” and “Hi, what are you doing here.” I shared with my roommate Sue that I was amazed at how friendlythe actors were, because they all made me feel like they knew me! At one point, actor Alan Ruck (The Hangover)approached me and asked what I was doing there and wanted to know “How have you been?”. It was then that I knewthere had to be a case of mistaken identity. I told him what we (<strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong> and my fellow <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong>rs) were doing andwhere I was from, and I invited him to our booth. He laughed a little and said, “Oh my! You have a TWIN!” I neverasked him who my ‘twin’ was, so I was left wondering whoshe might be. I did not recognize many of the stars thatcame up to me acting as if they knew me until I started tosee them in different pictures after I got home. I think it wasa good thing I did not recognize them or I might have faintedwhen they turned to talk to me!I passed out many, many business cards during the event.When I arrived back in El Paso, I received a text messagefrom an unknown number and saying that they loved thejewelry we had given them as gifts. They also said that theythought I was “Kim’s mom”. I responded back, “Kim who?”,and the response came back “Kim Kardashian… We thought SVPs Yasmin Gonzalez and Sue Silveryou were Kris Kardashian-Jenner”. How funny is that? Theidentity mystery was solved! I will add that I think she’s a great looking lady, so, I take it as a compliment! LOL…This experience for me was amazing and I hope we are a part of it again. You Just Gotta’ Be There!CONVENTIONA few months ago, Pat Hemmings, Sales VicePresident from Ohio (Mruz organization), foundherself in a position that she had never beenin before….ever. CONVENTIONConvention Guest to Goal-Maker… what an inspiration!Senior Division from Texas, Jacque’ Rudman, invited a good friend of hers, her accountant, Linda,to attend the last <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong> convention as a guest. Linda became so excited about everything sheheard that she signed up on the spot! She plunged in and, in fact, she promoted to Branch Directorlast month. But, there’s more to the story. It seems Linda is quite a special lady; she has risenabove incredible obstacles to make her way in <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong>. They grew up in the Depressionera. Because they needed to work to help their families survive,they were only able to complete the 8th grade. Even though theyhad limited formal education, both are avid readers. They keepup with the news and follow what’s going on in our society. Theyfigured out how to use a VCR, mobile telephones, and recentlythey learned how to use the internet to view YouTube videos ofmy son playing lacrosse.On an airplane last week, the gentleman seated next to me and I shared pictures of our grandkids from our cell phones.We commented about how much technology has influenced our life and our business and agreed that we would be lostwithout it.It’s true; as each new aspect of technology arrives, it amazes us all, and we continue to learn and to apply it to ourlives. Last year, when my son went to college 2500 miles away, I learned how to use “Skype” and THAT is what I wantto share with you. I have used Skype to enhance my <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong> business, and so can you. With a little imagination, itsapplications are unlimited!Why type when you can “Skype”?“Skype” is a free online program that can be easily downloaded from the internet to your computer. It is an online videoconferencing forum where you can talk “live” (video picture and voice) to anyone in the world. The web address is:www.skype.com. You need a web camera (webcam) to plug into your computer monitor, or if you have a recent modellaptop, most of them have a camera (webcam) already built into the monitor. “Logitech” is a good webcam and veryinexpensive, around $20.00, and can be purchased at places like Target or Wal-Mart. You can also seek advice andwebcam recommendations from stores like Office Max or Best Buy.Here are some ideas and ways to integrate “Skype” into your <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Lane</strong> business. Remember that the party on the otherend of your video chat”, must have a webcam and be a Skype subscriber (it’s free to sign up). Many people alreadyhave the capability and are enrolled in Skype. As you spread the word, soon many more of your contacts will jump onthis program as well.• You can present a “Virtual Show” to friends and family that live a distance away.
