ROUND 9 REPORTSOpens2 nd XV: TSS 20 def BGS 5: Toowoomba Grammar<strong>School</strong> started well, apply<strong>in</strong>g plenty of pressure andthe half time score of 10-5 was <strong>in</strong>dicative of thecloseness of the contest. After the break, ourdecision mak<strong>in</strong>g improved and we put po<strong>in</strong>ts on theboard while defend<strong>in</strong>g strongly throughout. <strong>The</strong>seconds can be very content with their f<strong>in</strong>ish to theseason, after some unlucky and disappo<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g earlyrounds. Best Back: ConnerMalan/Steve Rowell.3 rd XV: TSS 17 def TGS 0: Aga<strong>in</strong>st solid opposition,the thirds f<strong>in</strong>ished the season well, with anotherstrong w<strong>in</strong>. Our ball control was not as good as theprevious week, but the defence was solid once aga<strong>in</strong>.Best Forward: Mitch Gahan. Best Back: CheronePelgen.4 th XV: TSS 33 def TGS 0: <strong>The</strong> fourths f<strong>in</strong>ished theirseason slightly disappo<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gly, with the gamestopped early <strong>in</strong> the second half. <strong>The</strong> boys playedwith confidence <strong>in</strong> the first half, with strong attackand clean ball from the ruck once aga<strong>in</strong>. Jack Hoath converted threetimes.Coach Bromley commented on how well the boys played as a team all season. <strong>The</strong>y wererelentless with their pressure all season. Worthy jo<strong>in</strong>t premiers.16B TSS def TGS 22-0: <strong>The</strong> boys dom<strong>in</strong>ated play all day and Zac Potter <strong>in</strong> the first half scored2 powerhouse tries. Tries were also scored by Tennyson L<strong>in</strong>g Stuckey and Sam Warren LukeDelaney converted once. Coach Stewart was pleased with the boys' cont<strong>in</strong>ual pressure on theopposition as well as their improved self discipl<strong>in</strong>e over the season. Well done boys.16C TSS def TGS 12-0: This was a great game as both teams were very even and it was onlytwo pieces of <strong>in</strong>dividual brilliance which separated the sides. Blood relatives Tyler and BrodyBlades both scored brilliantly <strong>in</strong>novated tries. Brody also converted his own try. CoachesCallum Sutherland and Nick Warner have been proud of their players all season particularlyhighlight<strong>in</strong>g their consistency and never say die attitude. A wonderful team.16D TSS def TGS 22-17: <strong>in</strong> what was a very close contest.Tries to Stuart Munro, CharlieCraggs, Anthony Abreu and Mitchell McPhee. Anthony Abreu converted once. Though<strong>in</strong>consistent at times the boys have been full of enthusiasm and have enjoyed their Rugby.Coaches Mitch Cripps and Just<strong>in</strong> Bernste<strong>in</strong> have enjoyed their association with boys <strong>in</strong> theteam.Thank you to the parents for your support and to Mr Delaney for his tireless assistance asl<strong>in</strong>esman dur<strong>in</strong>g the season and also to Mr Rose and Mr Lewis for help<strong>in</strong>g with l<strong>in</strong>esmanduties as well.John Wallace


Under 15’sROUND 9 REPORTS15A TSS 20 d TGS 17: This was a superb game with both teams display<strong>in</strong>gdeterm<strong>in</strong>ed defence and some awesome attack<strong>in</strong>g skills. A highlight of the gamewas the beautiful try set up and then f<strong>in</strong>ished off by our “import” Matt Flett. Matthad a great game for TSS and has been a wonderful addition to the squad, it is apity he won’t be here to fly on the w<strong>in</strong>g for our U16s next year. Sam Clifton, AdamGauder, Lucas Stonhill and Brock Anderson were standouts for the As and havegiven notice that they will be a force to be reckoned with <strong>in</strong> Under 16 competitionnext year.A great team game where everyone gave 100% effort and followed the gamesplans laid down by coaches Dobrenov and Sw<strong>in</strong>ton.15B TGS 22 d TSS 5: This was a disappo<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g end to the season for the TSS boys.<strong>The</strong>y gave their all on Saturday, but couldn’t quite match the TGS backl<strong>in</strong>e.Rahboni Warren-Vosayaco worked his heart out <strong>in</strong> the backl<strong>in</strong>e and the forwardsled by Jon Van Neuberg, Walter Lyi-than and Jake Neilson were rock-solid. Thisteam has improved immensely this year and will certa<strong>in</strong>ly cont<strong>in</strong>ue to develop as agreat unit next year.15C TSS 17 d TGS 0: What a wonderful way to f<strong>in</strong>ish off an outstand<strong>in</strong>g season!<strong>The</strong> C team certa<strong>in</strong>ly showed why they are the most successful side <strong>in</strong> this agegroupwith powerful runn<strong>in</strong>g, great defence and excellent cohesion at thebreakdown. All of the boys played brilliantly on Saturday aga<strong>in</strong>st a TGS team thatwas simply not let <strong>in</strong>to the game. Outstand<strong>in</strong>g teamwork was the key to thisvictory!15DTSS 36 d TGS 25: Although the scores look quite close, the D team was <strong>in</strong>control for the entire match. <strong>The</strong> coaches were really impressed by the way theboys constantly pressured the ball and frequently put themselves <strong>in</strong> harm’s wayfor the sake of the team.Well done to all players and coach<strong>in</strong>g staff on an excellent season of Rugby <strong>in</strong>Under 15.Chris George, Age group manager


ROUND 9 REPORTSUnder 14’s14A TSS 10 def TGS 3: <strong>The</strong> coaches were very proud of the team and their f<strong>in</strong>ish tothe season. <strong>The</strong>re was great effort and commitment with the best defence of allgames this season. Coaches left the team with a mantra ‘ Defence w<strong>in</strong>s matches’. <strong>The</strong>team presented the coaches and manager with a gift which was greatly appreciated.Tries scored by – Joel Brown, Fred Dorrough. Best Forward: Tom Chelleri, Best Back:Issac Nathan, Player of the match: Bradley Undi.14B TSS 12 def TGS 0: Po<strong>in</strong>ts were only scored <strong>in</strong> the first half mak<strong>in</strong>g the secondhalf a very tough competition. <strong>The</strong>re was excellent support play, the best of theseason with boys us<strong>in</strong>g their game vision to read opportunities and capitalise onthem. <strong>The</strong> coaches mentioned the forwards had phenomenal scrums and there wasgood ball from set play. <strong>The</strong> coaches were moved with the gift the players presentedthem at the end of a w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g game. Best Forward: Jackson Eddy, William Rob<strong>in</strong>son, Best Back:Daniel Morden, Player of the match: Jackson Eddy.14C TSS 10 def TGS 5: <strong>The</strong> c’s faced a hard fought match. <strong>The</strong> first half was scorelessand the teams were evenly matched. In the second half teams scored one try each,battl<strong>in</strong>g up and down the field until TSS moved <strong>in</strong> for the second try towards the endof the match. <strong>The</strong>re was excellent team support and the team never gave up effort orstrong defence. Ultimately they deserved to w<strong>in</strong>. Coach Lobascher appreciated theseason gift presented to him after the seventh team war cry centre field <strong>in</strong> a row.Tries scored by – Rowan Hickson, Ziggy Zantiotis. Best Forward: Rowan Hickson, BestBack: Dane Rose, Player of the match : Jonathan <strong>Good</strong>man14D TSS 31 def TGS 0: A wonderful game enjoyed by all players. <strong>The</strong>re was excellentsupport play throughout with equal strength <strong>in</strong> the forwards and the backs. <strong>The</strong>result, a high note to end the season. Coaches were touched receiv<strong>in</strong>g a gift from theboys and thanked the boys for the season. Tries scored by – Declan Clarke-Wellsmore,Matt Kuhnemann, Alex Campbell, Josh Moy (2), Michael Lyon. Conversions by : ZacHalstead (3). ROUND 9 REPORTSUnder 13’sCongratulations to our teams! <strong>The</strong> boys played their hearts out aga<strong>in</strong>st ToowoombaGrammar <strong>School</strong>. This br<strong>in</strong>gs us to the end of the season. I must mention how well behavedthe boys have been and honestly one can say that they were an outstand<strong>in</strong>g ambassador for<strong>The</strong> <strong>Southport</strong> <strong>School</strong>. <strong>The</strong> parents can be really proud of their sons.13A TGS 12 def TSS 10: <strong>The</strong> 13A’s season f<strong>in</strong>ished with a heart-break<strong>in</strong>g last m<strong>in</strong>ute loss toToowoomba. Notwithstand<strong>in</strong>g the result the boys can take great pride from a tremendousteam effort. It was very gratify<strong>in</strong>g for the coaches to see the determ<strong>in</strong>ation and skilldisplayed by all players. Most if not all players had their best game of the year, and all boyscan look forward to under 14’s rugby with confidence. Well done to all players for theirdedication to tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g throughout the year and mak<strong>in</strong>g the season an enjoyable one.Coach Tim Trezise13B TGS 27 def TSS 0: This week the 13B's put <strong>in</strong> a very good effort aga<strong>in</strong>st TGS. <strong>The</strong> boysf<strong>in</strong>ished on a high note show<strong>in</strong>g improvement <strong>in</strong> tenacity at the breakdown and defensivestructure out wide. A large number of parents and old boys on the sidel<strong>in</strong>e helped to createan excit<strong>in</strong>g atmosphere. <strong>The</strong> boys respond well to cheer<strong>in</strong>g from the sidel<strong>in</strong>e but wereunfortunately defeated by a very strong and well drilled TGS side on the day. <strong>The</strong>sportsmanship and determ<strong>in</strong>ation showed by the boys aga<strong>in</strong> this week is consistent with thebrand of rugby they have developed throughout the year.Coaches Callum Mcgilvray and Paul Mitchell13C TSS 43 def TGS 10: A brilliant effort by the team to cap off a fantastic season. A trulycaptivat<strong>in</strong>g performance by the boys. <strong>The</strong> flair and creativity carried over from last week,really played a big part <strong>in</strong> the positive attitude the boys had on the field. A game played withflow<strong>in</strong>g runn<strong>in</strong>g rugby <strong>in</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d and <strong>in</strong> good spirits. <strong>The</strong> u13 team of the season produced thek<strong>in</strong>d of rugby their loyal fans love to watch. Bradley Dicks hav<strong>in</strong>g a great day with ball <strong>in</strong>hand and with the boot. Ben Driver impressed everyone with a massive 50m try that wasunfortunately disallowed, hand<strong>in</strong>g off multiple defenders and out spr<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g to 'score' <strong>in</strong> thecorner. Lachlan Her<strong>in</strong>s aggression help<strong>in</strong>g dom<strong>in</strong>ate the forward battle when it came to rucktime.
