Set to host the Champions <strong>Tour</strong> Outback Pro-Am <strong>Tour</strong>nament, <strong>TPC</strong> <strong>Tampa</strong><strong>Bay</strong> provided pristine course conditions. The he<strong>at</strong> was on during the opening round, when warm Floridasunshine and gale-force winds plagued the course as gusts reached 34 miles per hour providing a daunting taskfor all players. Final-round commenced to a slow start with more winds and sc<strong>at</strong>tered thunderstorms whichultim<strong>at</strong>ely delayed play. After the last storm passed through, the sun came out, the winds died down, andplayers continued to impress with low scores.In the Boys 16-19 Division, JD Tremmel of Columbus, OH was able to playthrough the tough conditions on S<strong>at</strong>urday and shoot an impressive round of evenpar 71, heading into Sunday’s round with a two stroke lead. With a host of playersonly a few strokes back, many were hoping to make a move on Sunday. Julio Cotoof Mexico City, Mexico and current student <strong>at</strong> the Hank Haney Intern<strong>at</strong>ional <strong>Junior</strong><strong>Golf</strong> Academy (HH IJGA) and M<strong>at</strong>eusz Jedrzejczyk of West Palm Beach, FL, wereboth tied for second after the opening round with quality scores of 73. Both Cotoand Jedrzejczyk shot 4-over-par 75 on Sunday to tie for third place. C<strong>at</strong>apulting upthe leader board with a stunning round of 2-under-par 69 was Blake Morris ofW<strong>at</strong>erbury, CT who quickly became the new leader in the clubhouse following hisfinal-round. Morris was able to card five birdies in the round to get below par.First round leader Tremmel continued to play well and finished with a 3-over-par 74 on Sunday to force aplayoff with Morris. Entering the first playoff hole, Morris was able to keep his cool and make a solid par tobecome this week’s champion.Morris came into this week’s event with his main goal being victory; he was able to achieve th<strong>at</strong> with his gre<strong>at</strong>play on Sunday. “I struck the ball gre<strong>at</strong> and made a lot of putts,” said Morris. Looking forward, Morris hopes touse this victory as a stepping stone for this year, “I’ve been playing well coming into this event and this win willbe a jumpstart for more to come.”In the Boys 13-15 Division the competition was tight after S<strong>at</strong>urday’s round. CaulenCoe (HH IJGA) of Gulf Stream, FL, was the first round leader after a round of 6-over-par 77 with several boys on his tail going into Sunday. Adam Chowdhari of<strong>Tampa</strong>, FL, played well Sunday and carded a final round of 7-over-par 78 to tie forthird place honors with Coe. M<strong>at</strong>t DeGiorgio of Mansfield, MA also made his moveon Sunday, firing a gre<strong>at</strong> round of 1-over-par 72 to finish second. No stranger to thewinners circle, Theo Humphrey of Greenwich, CT domin<strong>at</strong>ed on Sunday with around of 5-over-par 76 to take home the crown by a slim margin of two strokes.


In the Boys 12 & Under Division, the competition was tight following the opening round with all playersfinding themselves within three strokes of each other. JJ Qualkenbush of La Quinta, CA was able to capitalizeearly and post an 83 on S<strong>at</strong>urday. Within close striking distance was AlbanoValentino of San Juan, Argentina, carding a 85 and Chandler Morris of W<strong>at</strong>erbury,CT with a 86. Sunday’s round proved to be just as captiv<strong>at</strong>ing when all competitorscontinued to b<strong>at</strong>tle for first place honors. Valentino played well on Sunday butcouldn’t close the gap and finished in second place with a round of 11-over-par 82.Finishing in third was Morris with a tournament total of 171. Qualkenbush tookadvantage of his overnight lead posting final-round of 10-over-par 81 to take homeanother title.Qualkenbush felt th<strong>at</strong> he was on his way to victory only nine holes into thetournament. “After I shot th<strong>at</strong> 36 on S<strong>at</strong>urday’s front side I felt like I was incontrol,” When asked wh<strong>at</strong> was working Qualkenbush said, I’ve been working on my putting ,and yes it wasbetter this week, I also hit my long irons really well.”In the Girls 19 & Under Division, S<strong>at</strong>urday’s tough conditions did not phase players. Four girls were able toshoot a solid round of 3-over-par 74 to claim the overnight lead. Xin Wang ofGuangzhou, China, Audrey Monssoh of Los Angeles, CA, Louise Yi ofCinnaminson, NJ, and Monifa Sealy of Glencoe, Trinidad and Tobago all headedinto Sunday’s round looking to come out on top as this week’s winner. The fourplayed very well Sunday leading to a riveting finish. In third was Yi with a tworound total of 151 to take third place. Second place honors were taken byMonssoh with a gre<strong>at</strong> round of 2-over-par 73. Wang really took advantage of theimproved conditions, and had five birdies in her Sunday round to take home thetitle with an impressive round of 2-under-par 69.When asked about her win this week Wang said, “Everything was working well, Iwas hitting some gre<strong>at</strong> shots and I was relaxed, having a fun time with my friends.” Also she was able to turnaround her putting from S<strong>at</strong>urday to Sunday, “My putter was my best club on Sunday.As players entered Sunday’s final-round, many were hoping to leave with the coveted <strong>IJGT</strong> Low Final RoundBelt Buckle. This week’s winners were Blake Morris in the Boys 16-19 Division, Xin Wang in the Girls 19 &Under Division, Theo Humphrey in the Boys 13-15 Division, and JJ Qualkenbush in the Boys 12 & UnderDivision.In addition to the low final-round awards, <strong>IJGT</strong>’s newest sponsor J.
