Man-of-War are most prevalent during the monthsof November through April. When the Man-of-War present ahazard to the public, the blue pennant flag will be flying from thelifeguard towers. Man-of-War on the beach are also dangerous andcapable of stinging; therefore, they should be avoided.Symptoms: Extreme pain from the Man-of-War sting usually lastsfrom 1-3 hours. Serious symptoms from a sting could be any combinationof the following: tightness in the chest, respiratory difficulty,stomach cramps, vomiting, allergic reaction or severe pain.Those who suffer any of these symptoms should seek immediatemedical attention.Treatment: Any Man-of-War sting should be treated by an oceanlifeguard, who will apply a solution to the affected area. It is veryimportant that the victim use the callous portion of the fingertipsto peel off tentacles.
