Man-<strong>of</strong>-War are most prevalent during the months<strong>of</strong> November through April. When the Man-<strong>of</strong>-War present ahazard to the public, the blue pennant flag will be flying from thelifeguard towers. Man-<strong>of</strong>-War on the beach are also dangerous andcapable <strong>of</strong> stinging; therefore, they should be avoided.Symptoms: Extreme pain from the Man-<strong>of</strong>-War sting usually lastsfrom 1-3 hours. Serious symptoms from a sting could be any combination<strong>of</strong> the following: tightness in the chest, respiratory difficulty,stomach cramps, vomiting, allergic reaction or severe pain.Those who suffer any <strong>of</strong> these symptoms should seek immediatemedical attention.Treatment: Any Man-<strong>of</strong>-War sting should be treated by an oceanlifeguard, who will apply a solution to the affected area. It is veryimportant that the victim use the callous portion <strong>of</strong> the fingertipsto peel <strong>of</strong>f tentacles.
