ISIS is the standard interfacingmethod between small format scanners andmost document imaging applications. We can supplythese parts at a significant savings.Chip’s CornerColortrac Flatbed ScannerTips From Chip!Large format scanners commonly usethe roll feed method of feeding documentsthrough the scanner to bescanned. The Colortrac FB24120 largeformat flatbed scanner provides a large24”x36” flat scan area. It fills a hole inthe large format scanner market. Thisscanner allows scanning of many objectsthat cannot be scanned on conventionalroll feed large format scanners, includingbooks, paintings, wood, and fragileobjects.Many people assume that the ColortracFB24120 is limited to scanning objectsless than 24”x36”. This is not true. TheScanworks software that comes with thescanner has tools to automate the processof joining separate scanned imagestogether. So, a painting that is 30” x42” can be scanned in two parts andthen the two parts can be joined together.Larger objects can be scannedin several parts and all the parts can bejoined together.The tools provided with the FB24120allow fixing images in three differentways.4-Point Joining: Use two arrows oneach image to automatically deskew andposition the images.Overlay: Use positioning and transparencycontrols to manually deskew andposition the images.Cut Overlap: Automatically removestitching error when an original does notsit flat on the glass.Using 4-Point Joining to scan an objectlarger than 24”x36”:1. Scan the object in two halves leavingsome overlap.2. Create a blank canvas somewhatlarger than the two images.3. Load the two images.4. Each image will have two arrows.Each arrow on one image is pairedto an arrow on the other image.5. Find a point that appears in theoverlapped area on each image.6. Zoom in and carefully place thepaired arrows on the same pixel ofeach image.7. Repeat placing the arrows on a secondpoint on the images.8. Tell Scanworks to join the images.Scanworks will deskew and positionthe images on top of each other andthen merge them into one file.Using Overlay to scan an object largerthan 24”x36”:1. Scan the object in two halves leavingsome overlap.2. Create a blank canvas somewhatlarger than the two images.Page 23. Load the two images. The secondimage will be on top of the first.4. Use the transparency control tomake the second image transparentso that the first image can be seenthrough it.5. Position the second image over thefirst. Right click to access the deskewingtool.6. Do a final positioning.7. Tell Scanworks to join the images.Scanworks will merge them into onefile.Using the Cut Overlap tool:1. Cut Overlap is used to remove thestitching or overscanning error betweenthe two cameras that canoccur when the scanned object israised above the glass.2. Two points of duplicated data areselected.3. Scanworks then trims the duplicateddata from the middle of theoriginal image.4. Linh is “command central”of the Paradigm operation. Everything fromwork orders to payables to shipments is coordinatedwith supreme efficiency by Ms.Page 3Pham. Linh somehow has a hand in virtuallyall business that is conducted at Paradigm,managing the entire office. Paradigm PresidentRandy Geesman said, “Linh is crucial toour successful operation.
