38609that he did not rec<strong>al</strong>l seeing SVK tanks outside the UN compound on 5 August 1995,nor could he rec<strong>al</strong>l wh<strong>et</strong>her he was quoted correctly in the news. 5245 At approximately 9a.m. on 5 August 1995, Leslie participated in the evacuation of 30-40 patients in critic<strong>al</strong>condition from the Knin hospit<strong>al</strong> to the UN compound. 5246 During the trip to thehospit<strong>al</strong> Leslie got the impression that the town was essenti<strong>al</strong>ly deserted and heobserved 15-20 dead bodies, including those of women, children, and elderly, <strong>al</strong>ong theroad and occasion<strong>al</strong>ly up the side stre<strong>et</strong>s. 5247 At the hospit<strong>al</strong> Leslie observed a numberof bodies, which he assessed to be b<strong>et</strong>ween 30 and 60, of dead men, women, andchildren stacked in a pile in the hospit<strong>al</strong> corridor. 5248 Leslie did not observe any shelldamage on the hospit<strong>al</strong>. 5249 However some splinters had hit the building and some of thewindows were broken due to impact close by. 5250 The witness’s impression was that theHV made an effort not to hit the hospit<strong>al</strong>. 5251 When the witness and others were loadingpatients into armed vehicles around 10:30 a.m., the witness observed a tankapproximately 400 m<strong>et</strong>res north-east of the hospit<strong>al</strong> firing into Knin. 5252 The witnesscould not observe to which armed forces that tank belonged. 5253 Leslie testified that ataround 11 a.m. on 5 August 1995, the first HV troops from the Puma Brigade enteredKnin and started mopping up operations which lasted for three days. 5254 Artillery fire onKnin ceased as of noon on that day. 52551334.
