John Hill, Commanding Officer of the Internation<strong>al</strong> Military Police in SectorSouth from early June 1995 to 8 December 1995, 2941 stated that on 10 August 1995 hewent into Gračac and observed that there were artillery holes in the fields leading to th<strong>et</strong>own. 2942 Hill further observed that some of the houses in the town were still burningand described the town as destroyed. 2943 He saw Croatian soldiers in Americancamouflage pattern uniforms looting <strong>al</strong>cohol and food and ste<strong>al</strong>ing cars. 2944 Hill statedthat there was a smell of bodies in the town but did not see any bodies. 2945687. The Tri<strong>al</strong> Chamber fin<strong>al</strong>ly received relevant evidence from various sourcesconcerning the second h<strong>al</strong>f of August, and September 1995. At 2:30 p.m. on 18 August1995, Steenbergen and his patrol saw approximately ten burning houses at VelikaPopina in Gračac municip<strong>al</strong>ity. 2946 They wanted to go to the spot, but turned backbecause they were threatened by some 20 regular HV soldiers in camouflage uniformwho banged the UNMO vehicle with their rifle-butts and showed their handgrenades. 2947 Steenbergen testified that <strong>al</strong>most immediately after Operation Storm,check-points were established that monitored <strong>al</strong>l entry and exit routes into Gračac.
