A log of the Speci<strong>al</strong> Police during Operation Storm recounts activities andmovements b<strong>et</strong>ween 2 August 1995 and 7 August 1995. 2643 At 4:40 a.m. on 4 August1995, Markač confirmed the order to attack which was then sign<strong>al</strong>led at 5 a.m. 2644 By 10a.m. on that day, M<strong>al</strong>i Alan, Lovinac municip<strong>al</strong>ity, had been surrounded and wassubsequently liberated by Speci<strong>al</strong> Police units at 1 p.m. 2645 At 8 p.m. on 4 August 1995,<strong>al</strong>l members who had reached new locations in the area of Gračac and Gospić wereordered to carry out fortifications of their positions. 2646 On 5 August 1995, at 5 a.m. theorder to continue action was given while logistics were relocated to M<strong>al</strong>i Alan. 2647 At9:30 a.m. on that day, Markač ordered that Gračac be taken and after compl<strong>et</strong>ion of thisactivity the forward command post was relocated to Gračac. 2648 The following day, 6August 1995, the Intern<strong>al</strong> Control Speci<strong>al</strong> Police Sector Chief received an order fromMarkač not to cross over the road near Otrić, Gračac municip<strong>al</strong>ity, at 12:20 p.m. As of1:50 p.m. on 7 August 1995, Donji Lapac had been liberated. 2649 Following thisliberation, the Speci<strong>al</strong> Police and the HV linked up in Otrić. 2650615. At the beginning of Operation Storm, the Speci<strong>al</strong> Police unit of the Split-D<strong>al</strong>matia administration was advancing toward the area of M<strong>al</strong>i Alan. The unit’sobjective was to disable the actions of enemy artillery which proved ch<strong>al</strong>lenging due tofortified enemy positions. Sever<strong>al</strong> members of the unit were killed in the early stages.As enemy positions were pen<strong>et</strong>rated and neutr<strong>al</strong>ized, the unit encountered bunkers withweapons left by fleeing soldiers. 2651 Continuing beyond M<strong>al</strong>i Alan, the unit wasinvolved in a fierce skirmish with an enemy group at Čulj<strong>et</strong>i. With night f<strong>al</strong>ling at thispoint, the unit linked up with the Zadar Speci<strong>al</strong> Police unit on their right flank andestablished flexible defensive positions until morning.
