38967attack it. 2633 Markač stated that this “exodus” began before the Speci<strong>al</strong> Police arrived inDonji Lapac and that it lasted sever<strong>al</strong> days. 2634 Markač stated that some buildings andhouses were damaged and destroyed by the (artillery) fighting in Donji Lapac and thathe was told that some of the Serbs from the convoy were s<strong>et</strong>ting their houses on fire toprevent them from f<strong>al</strong>ling in the hands of “Ustashas”. 2635 Markač <strong>al</strong>so saw some burninghouses. 2636 At 3 p.m., the Speci<strong>al</strong> Police forces continued towards Kulen Vakuf inBosnia-Herzegovina and reached it at 7 p.m. 2637 Around 3 p.m., parts of the HV <strong>al</strong>soreached Donji Lapac. 2638 Around 11 p.m. on 7 August 1995, the 8th Home GuardsRegiment, the 118th Home Guards Regiment, and the 128th Home Guards Regimenttook over control of the border. 2639 Markač stated that he had followed the advance ofhis troops but r<strong>et</strong>urned to Gračac to spend the night at the headquarters of the Speci<strong>al</strong>Police. 2640613. On 4 August 1995 at 5 a.m., the Speci<strong>al</strong> Police unit of the Osijek-Baranjaadministration was ordered to g<strong>et</strong> into action as the first auxiliary group to members ofthe Zadar, Split, and Varaždin Speci<strong>al</strong> Police units. While advancing the unit was splitinto two combat groups, one of which remained in the M<strong>al</strong>i Alan area to evacuate thewounded, while the second group went to the Crveni Bunari area to support the Speci<strong>al</strong>Police unit from Splitsko-D<strong>al</strong>matinska. After the two units were rejoined, they advancedtowards Gračac on 5 August 1995 taking control of the prominent elevations in order tocapture dispersed enemy formations. On 6 August 1995, the unit came down from theirelevated positions into Gračac and were accommodated in the loc<strong>al</strong> school. 2641 FromGračac, the unit took part in the liberation of Donji Lapac with other Speci<strong>al</strong> Policeunits on 7 August 1995. After advancing to Donji Lapac without any serious problems,the Speci<strong>al</strong> Police Joint Force Command ordered the unit to r<strong>et</strong>urn to its origin<strong>al</strong> base inOsijek after the successful compl<strong>et</strong>ion of Operation Storm.
