Branko B<strong>al</strong>unović, speci<strong>al</strong>ist training instructor in the Lučko Anti-Terrorist Unitof the Speci<strong>al</strong> Police, 1668 gave similar evidence as other Speci<strong>al</strong> Police members aboutthis incident. 1669 In addition, B<strong>al</strong>unović testified that, soon after his group’s departure,they encountered two elderly civilians in a haml<strong>et</strong> of sever<strong>al</strong> homes. 1670 Ante Jurendić, amember of B<strong>al</strong>unović’s group, found the civilians and informed Čelić over the radio. 1671Čelić responded that the civilians should remain where they were and that someonewould come to collect them, at which point B<strong>al</strong>unović continued <strong>al</strong>ong his axis ofmovement while Čelić made sure the civilians were picked up safely. 1672 The witnessbelieved the r<strong>et</strong>riev<strong>al</strong> of civilians was a planned procedure, but agreed that Čelić might<strong>al</strong>so have been worried that some members of the unit would harm the civilians if theywere to remain with them. 1673 After this, there was no further radio contact withČelić. 1674 The witness testified that he heard sporadic gunshots and explosionsthroughout the morning. 1675 B<strong>al</strong>unović explained that it was norm<strong>al</strong> for people takingpart in such an operation to open fire when approaching an area that seemed suspicious,in order to provoke a reaction. 1676379.
