His death occurred May 17, 1898,<strong>and</strong> lie was buried near '' Refuge.''FRANK ELMORE TWITTY. One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading law firms <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> BrunswickCircuit, <strong>and</strong> one which has been prominently known in recent years in connection, principally, with corporation law, is that <strong>of</strong> Bennett, Twitty & Reese.The present partnership was formed in 1910, <strong>and</strong> since that time <strong>the</strong>re havebeen few cases <strong>of</strong> prominence in <strong>the</strong> courts <strong>of</strong> Glynn County which have notbeen represented in some way by this strong legal combination. A member<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> firm who has risen steadily to prominence through twenty-six years <strong>of</strong>practice, <strong>of</strong> which twenty-five have been passed at Brunswick, Frank ElmoreTwitty is an excellent illustration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> kind <strong>of</strong> material that may be foundamong <strong>Georgia</strong>'s native sons to contribute to <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional prestige <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>state. He was born in Lee County, December 13, 1867, <strong>and</strong> is a son <strong>of</strong>Chapman R. <strong>and</strong> Ellen (Paul) Twitty.Chapman R. Twitty was born in Lancaster, South Carolina, in 1816, <strong>and</strong>enjoyed excellent educational advantages in his youth. He was <strong>of</strong> a scholarlydisposition <strong>and</strong> early adopted <strong>the</strong> vocation <strong>of</strong> educator, a pr<strong>of</strong>ession to whichhe devoted his entire life <strong>and</strong> in which he won merited distinction, holding<strong>the</strong> chair <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> languages first at <strong>the</strong> Carolina Female College inAnsonville, North Carolina, <strong>and</strong> later at <strong>the</strong> Greenville Female Seminaryin Greenville, South Carolina. He moved in middle life to Lee County,<strong>Georgia</strong>. His death occurred in Gordon County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, in 1878, when hewas sixty-two years <strong>of</strong> age. Mrs. Ellen Twitty was born in Wadesboro,'NorthCarolina, in 1836, <strong>and</strong> died at Brunswick, <strong>Georgia</strong>, November 11, 1913, agedseventy-seven years. They were <strong>the</strong> parents <strong>of</strong> eight children, <strong>of</strong> whom FrankElmore was <strong>the</strong> youngest. He received his early education in private schools,following which he took a course at <strong>the</strong> University Ranch College, <strong>of</strong> Cuthbert,<strong>Georgia</strong>. He next became a student at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>, <strong>and</strong>attended <strong>the</strong> literary department, through his sophomore year, when hebegan his law studies. He graduated in 1887 with <strong>the</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong>Laws, <strong>and</strong> began his pr<strong>of</strong>essional career at Camilla, but came to Brunswickin 1890, where his subsequent labors have been since passed. Until 1898 he wasengaged in practice alone, but in that year he became associated with J. D.Sparks, this partnership continuing until 1901. For three years Mr. Twittyagain practiced by himself, <strong>and</strong> in 1904 became <strong>the</strong> senior partner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>firm <strong>of</strong> Twitty & Reese, his associate being Millard Reese, who is still a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> firm, <strong>and</strong> a sketch <strong>of</strong> whose career will be found elsewhere in this. work. ' This combination soon attracted attention as one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading lawfirms in <strong>the</strong> Brunswick Circuit. On January 1, 1910, <strong>the</strong>refore, a decidedaddition was made to <strong>the</strong> firm's personnel by <strong>the</strong> acquisition <strong>of</strong> Hon. JosephW. Bennett, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> business <strong>the</strong>n began operating under <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Bennett, Twitty & Reese, its present style. Judge Bennett is a native <strong>of</strong> BrooksCounty, <strong>Georgia</strong>, a graduate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>, class <strong>of</strong> 1884. <strong>and</strong>an able <strong>and</strong> astute lawyer. He is a former member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Legislature<strong>and</strong> had served for two years as judge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Superior Court. The business<strong>of</strong> Bennett, Twitty & Reese is <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most impoi-tant character, for large corporations do not entrust <strong>the</strong>ir litigation to mediocre talent. The firm isdivision counsel for <strong>the</strong> Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company <strong>and</strong> assistantdivision counsel for <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Railway Company, represents <strong>the</strong> Brunswick Bank <strong>and</strong> Trust Company'<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Bank <strong>of</strong> Brunswick, <strong>and</strong>has <strong>the</strong> names <strong>of</strong> numerous o<strong>the</strong>r large corporations on its books.Mr. Twitty is a thorough master <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> difficult branch <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>essionknown as corporation law.
