2842 GEORGIA AND GEORGIANSFor two years Mr. Connor served as city attorney <strong>of</strong> Griffin. In 1912 hewas elected a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State Legislature, <strong>and</strong> his present term expiresin 1916. He is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Spalding County Bar Association, is seniorwarden <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Masonic Lodge <strong>and</strong> also affiliates with <strong>the</strong> Independent Order<strong>of</strong> Odd Fellows.On August 6, 1910, he married Helen Osman, <strong>of</strong> Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They have a daughter Rosa. Mr. Connor outside <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>ession isintei'ested in local industries at Griffin, but his principal hobby is <strong>the</strong> raising<strong>of</strong> registered cattle, hogs <strong>and</strong> chickens, <strong>and</strong> he has a .well equipped place nearGriffin to carry out that diversion. He made a record during <strong>the</strong> war withSpain, enlisting in Company <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Third <strong>Georgia</strong> Regiment, <strong>and</strong> was with<strong>the</strong> volunteer armies until June, 1898. He was mustered out as sergeant <strong>of</strong>his company. For some time Mr. Connor also filled <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> county clerk.HON. ROBERT L. COLDING. Though not yet thirty years <strong>of</strong> age, Robert L.Colding has made his mark in business <strong>and</strong> public affairs in Savannah, wherehe has spent practically all his life.He was born in September, 1886, a son <strong>of</strong> S. M. <strong>and</strong> Laura P. (Sibley)Colding. His fa<strong>the</strong>r during <strong>the</strong> war was captain <strong>of</strong> a Confederate company<strong>and</strong> afterwards served as a staff <strong>of</strong>ficer, <strong>and</strong> took part in many battles. After<strong>the</strong> war he was engaged iii <strong>the</strong> cotton business at Savannah, where he becamewell known, <strong>and</strong> died in 1886 at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> fifty-seven. During <strong>the</strong> yellowfever epidemic he served as secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council Board <strong>of</strong> Health <strong>and</strong> astreasurer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> city. Mr. Colding's mo<strong>the</strong>r was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> well knownSibley family <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>, <strong>and</strong> she died in 19Cfe at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> sixty-eight.Robert L. Colding is one <strong>of</strong> a family <strong>of</strong> four children. His bro<strong>the</strong>r, H. S.Colding, is a practicing dentist at Savannah <strong>and</strong> his sisters, Florence <strong>and</strong>Carrie, still live in Savannah. Robert L. Colding attended <strong>the</strong> public schools<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Savannah Military Academy, <strong>and</strong> after completing his educationspent three'years in <strong>the</strong> laundry business, was <strong>the</strong>n clerk in a bank, <strong>and</strong> forthree years was deputy city clerk. While in <strong>the</strong> latter <strong>of</strong>fice he took up <strong>the</strong>study <strong>of</strong> law <strong>and</strong> pursued it with characteristic vigor, <strong>and</strong> was admitted to<strong>the</strong> bar in 1897. Since <strong>the</strong>n he has been in a steadily growing practice, <strong>and</strong>is one <strong>of</strong> Savannah's strongest attorneys.He has served as a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> city council, as vice chairman, <strong>and</strong> aschairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fire committee, <strong>and</strong> has spent five years as county attorney.He is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> State Bar Association. Mr. Colding takes aprominent part in fraternal affairs, particularly in Masonry. He has servedas gr<strong>and</strong> master <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Gr<strong>and</strong> Lodge <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>, as gr<strong>and</strong> high priest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Gr<strong>and</strong> Chapter, also as one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> chief <strong>of</strong>ficers in <strong>the</strong> Gr<strong>and</strong> Council <strong>of</strong><strong>Georgia</strong>, has held <strong>of</strong>ficial rank in <strong>the</strong> Knights Templar organization, <strong>and</strong> hasattained <strong>the</strong> thirty-second degree in Scottish Rite <strong>and</strong> is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficersin <strong>the</strong> Mystic Shrine. He is past exalted ruler <strong>of</strong> Lodge No. 183 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Benevolent <strong>and</strong> Protective Order <strong>of</strong> Elks <strong>and</strong> has served as president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>State Association <strong>of</strong> Elks; he is past noble gr<strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> Oglethorpe Lodge Independent Order <strong>of</strong> Odd Fellows, a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> local lodge <strong>of</strong> Knights^ <strong>of</strong>Pythias, <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fraternal Order <strong>of</strong> Eagles.In 1894 he married Miss Annie E. Mclntire, daughter <strong>of</strong> Edward Mc-Intire. His fa<strong>the</strong>r was for a number <strong>of</strong> years comptroller <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Central <strong>of</strong><strong>Georgia</strong> Railway <strong>and</strong> died at Savannah in 1898. Mr. Colding's only child,Edward Mclntire Colding, died in infancy.ANTONIO JOHNSON WARING, M. D. Few young men bring to any pr<strong>of</strong>ession better natural talent <strong>and</strong> a more thorough training than Dr. Antonio-Johnson Waring has brought to his work as a physician <strong>and</strong> surgeon.Although in practice only a few years Doctor Waring is recognized as one<strong>of</strong> Savannah's ablest <strong>and</strong> most successful physicians <strong>and</strong> surgeons.
