A scion <strong>of</strong> an old <strong>and</strong> honored family <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>,Charles Warren Lowe is admirably upholding <strong>the</strong> high prestige <strong>of</strong> hispatronymic <strong>and</strong> is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> representative <strong>and</strong> influential citizens <strong>of</strong>Marion County, where he is serving as clerk <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Superior Court <strong>and</strong> wherehe is president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Buena Vista Loan & Savings Bank, one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> substantial<strong>and</strong> well ordered financial institutions <strong>of</strong> this section <strong>of</strong> his native state.Mr. Lowe was born in Stewart County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, on <strong>the</strong> 20th <strong>of</strong> October,1867, <strong>and</strong> is a son <strong>of</strong> Rev. "Erastus William Lowe <strong>and</strong> Cornelia (Wright)Lowe. both natives <strong>of</strong> Jones County, this state,'where <strong>the</strong> former was bornin 1837 <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> latter in 1847. Rev. Erastus W. Lowe was a son <strong>of</strong> JamesPowell <strong>and</strong> Amelia Gaines (Brown) Lowe, who were sterling pioneer citizens<strong>of</strong> Jones County <strong>and</strong> who did well <strong>the</strong>ir part in connection with civic <strong>and</strong>industrial development <strong>and</strong> progress in Central <strong>Georgia</strong>, where <strong>the</strong>y continued to reside until <strong>the</strong>ir death. Elder Erastus W. Lowe was a man <strong>of</strong> fineintellectuality <strong>and</strong> noble character, as shown by his long <strong>and</strong> fruitful serviceas a clergyman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Primitive Baptist Church. He held various pastoralcharges within <strong>the</strong> protracted period <strong>of</strong> his ministerial labors, <strong>and</strong> was pastor<strong>of</strong> a church in Stewart County at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> his death, in 1878. His loyaltyto <strong>the</strong> Confederacy was <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most insistent type during <strong>the</strong> dark epoch <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> Civil war <strong>and</strong> he went to Macon to tender his services as a soldier, butwas not accepted for enlistment, owing to physical disability. His bro<strong>the</strong>r,Colonel John Hollinger Lowe, was a distinguished <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Confederateservice during <strong>the</strong> war between <strong>the</strong> North <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> South <strong>and</strong> later representedStewart County as a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> .Legislature. The venerablewidow <strong>of</strong> Elder Erastus W. Lowe maintains her home at Buena Vista, is adevoted member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Primitive Baptist Church <strong>and</strong> is revered by all whohave come within <strong>the</strong> circle <strong>of</strong> her gracious influence. Of <strong>the</strong> six children<strong>the</strong> first-born, James Erastus Lowe, is a prominent cotton merchant <strong>and</strong>influential citizen <strong>of</strong> Buena Vista; Charles W., immediate subject <strong>of</strong> thissketch, was <strong>the</strong> next in order <strong>of</strong> birth; Sarah Corrilla Lowe, died at <strong>the</strong> age<strong>of</strong> fifteen; George Ross is associated with his bro<strong>the</strong>r James E., as a member<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> firm <strong>of</strong> Lowe & Company, cotton factors at Buena Vista, <strong>and</strong> is president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> First National Bank <strong>of</strong> this place, in <strong>the</strong> organization <strong>of</strong> which,in 1906, he was a prominent figure; Marcus Lafayette <strong>and</strong> William HollingerLowe are associated in <strong>the</strong> conducting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading general merch<strong>and</strong>iseestablishment <strong>of</strong> Buena Vista.Charles W. Lowe is indebted to <strong>the</strong> public schools <strong>of</strong> Stewart County <strong>and</strong><strong>of</strong> Buena Vista, Marion County, for his early educational discipline, <strong>and</strong> at<strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> seventeen years he became actively associated with <strong>the</strong> work <strong>and</strong>management <strong>of</strong> a farm owned by his fa<strong>the</strong>r, in Stewart County. About ayear later, however, he assumed a clerical position in <strong>the</strong> mercantile establishment conducted at Buena Vista by" James M. Lowe, a cousin <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r,<strong>and</strong> his services in this establishment continued from 1888 to 1903, in whichlatter year he was elected clerk <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Superior Court <strong>of</strong> Marion County, an<strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> which he has since continued <strong>the</strong> efficient <strong>and</strong> popular incumbent.In 1913 Mr. Lowe was elected president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Buena Vista Loan &Savings Bank, <strong>of</strong> which his kinsman <strong>and</strong> former employer, James M. Lowe, was<strong>the</strong> first president. This bank was organized <strong>and</strong> incorporated in 1889, witha capital stock <strong>of</strong> $25,000, which was later increased to its present figure,$30,000, <strong>the</strong> bank now having surplus <strong>and</strong> undivided pr<strong>of</strong>its to <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong>$30,000 <strong>and</strong> being known as one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> carefully <strong>and</strong> conservatively managedfinancial institutions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> central part <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>.Mr. Lowe is essentially a business man <strong>and</strong> has had no ambition for political
