He is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Methodist Episcopal Church, South.On <strong>the</strong> 28th day <strong>of</strong> July, 1878, Doctor Goss wedded Miss Martha Everlcla.Montgomery <strong>of</strong> Fort Lainar, this state, she having been a daughter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lateCaptain Montgomery, who served with marked distinction as a captain in<strong>the</strong> Confederate army during <strong>the</strong> war between <strong>the</strong> states. Mrs. Goss passedaway on <strong>the</strong> 14th Jay <strong>of</strong> March, 1899.Doctor Goss's daughter, Agnus Clifton, is a graduate <strong>of</strong> Lucy Cobb Institute <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Carnegie <strong>Library</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Atlanta, <strong>Georgia</strong>, being now <strong>the</strong>librarian <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State Normal School at A<strong>the</strong>ns, <strong>Georgia</strong> ; <strong>and</strong> his son, RalphMontgomery Goss, followed in his fa<strong>the</strong>r's footsteps <strong>and</strong> became a physician.practicing medicine <strong>and</strong> surgery in <strong>the</strong> City <strong>of</strong> A<strong>the</strong>ns. In 1901 he graduated at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> with <strong>the</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts, <strong>and</strong>in <strong>the</strong> George Washington University, Washington City, he was graduatedin 1906 with <strong>the</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> Doctor <strong>of</strong> Medicine. After his graduation heserved four years as a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> staff <strong>of</strong> physicians <strong>of</strong> Mount SinaiHospital in <strong>the</strong> City <strong>of</strong> New York, where he gained most valuable clinicalexperience, <strong>and</strong> since 1910, he has been practicing medicine <strong>and</strong> surgery.In 1903, Doctor Goss was married to his present wife, who was MissVirginia Campbell Anderson <strong>of</strong> Clarkesville, Tennessee, <strong>the</strong> marriage takingplace on January 27th at Christ Church Ca<strong>the</strong>dral, New Orleans, Louisiana.Mrs. Goss, on her fa<strong>the</strong>r's side, is a descendant <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> distinguished Nelson<strong>and</strong> Cary families <strong>of</strong> Virginia, <strong>and</strong> on her mo<strong>the</strong>r's side, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Oteys <strong>of</strong>Virginia <strong>and</strong> Tennessee. Bishop James Hervey Otey, <strong>the</strong> first bishop <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Episcopal Church <strong>of</strong> Tennessee <strong>and</strong> founder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Southat Sewanee, was <strong>the</strong> bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> her gr<strong>and</strong>fa<strong>the</strong>r.HOWARD PARKiKSOX. Representing <strong>the</strong> first class ability <strong>and</strong>skill <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>and</strong> enjoying a large general practice, Doctor Parkinsonis one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> young physicians <strong>and</strong> surgeons <strong>of</strong> Marietta who lias quicklytaken front rank in <strong>the</strong>ir pr<strong>of</strong>ession. He began practice with an excellentequipment <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> test <strong>of</strong> real practice found him qualified for this importantservice among <strong>the</strong> social pr<strong>of</strong>essions. He is also regarded as one <strong>of</strong> Marietta'spublic spirited citizens, <strong>and</strong> represents <strong>the</strong> best stock <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> South, whichthrough different generations has been identified with <strong>the</strong> agricultural, business <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional activities <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>and</strong> South Carolina."William Howard Parkinson was bom in Cherokee County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, August 21, 1878, a son <strong>of</strong> William Howard <strong>and</strong> Lulu (Dean) Parkinson. Bothhis parents were natives <strong>of</strong> Gherokee County, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Parkinson <strong>and</strong> Deanfamilies have been represented in <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>and</strong> South Carolina for a number<strong>of</strong> generations. Rev. Thomas Parkinson, <strong>the</strong> great-gr<strong>and</strong>fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> DoctorParkinson, was born in South Carolina <strong>and</strong> for many years was active in<strong>the</strong> ministry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Baptist Church in that state <strong>and</strong> also in Cobb County,<strong>Georgia</strong>. He married a Miss McConnell. The gr<strong>and</strong>fa<strong>the</strong>r was also ThomasParkinson, a planter, slave owner <strong>and</strong> sawmill operator, born in Cass County,<strong>and</strong> for many years one <strong>of</strong> its foremost citizens. He married Mary Putnam,'who died in 1901 at Marietta at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> seventy-nine. Her fa<strong>the</strong>r, WorthPutnam, was for many years a planter <strong>and</strong> before <strong>the</strong> war a slave owner,<strong>and</strong> lived to <strong>the</strong> great age <strong>of</strong> ninety-sis years. The Parkinsons through all<strong>the</strong> generations have been identified with <strong>the</strong> Baptist Church.William Howard Parkinson, Sr., fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> doctor, was bom at Acworth,
