2824 GEOPQIA AND GEORGIANSDoctor Weaver began <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> medicine in Putnam County in 1882,<strong>and</strong> from 1887 was a resident <strong>of</strong> Eatonton. In his pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>and</strong> in everyo<strong>the</strong>r thing he undertook Doctor Weaver was distinguished for his leadership.He was always a student <strong>and</strong> a hard worker in his pr<strong>of</strong>ession, <strong>and</strong> contributedmany addresses <strong>and</strong> formal papers to <strong>the</strong> meetings <strong>of</strong> county <strong>and</strong> state medical societies. He served as vice president for <strong>the</strong> Eighth Congressional District Medical Society <strong>and</strong> for many years was president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Putnam CountyMedical Society. He was also a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> American Medical Association, <strong>and</strong> was vice president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Surgeons' Medical Association <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>.He was surgeon for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Railroad <strong>and</strong> a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>State Board <strong>of</strong> Health.His interests <strong>and</strong> activities outside <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>ession comm<strong>and</strong> specialmention. In 1909 he began an active campaign in behalf <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> agricultural<strong>and</strong> livestock interests <strong>of</strong> Putnam County, lecturing <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rwise carryingon a propag<strong>and</strong>a to promote diversified farming <strong>and</strong> stock raising. DoctorWeaver was called <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first peach canning establishment in<strong>Georgia</strong>, a company which has been in constant operation for more thantwenty-three years <strong>and</strong> has proved highly pr<strong>of</strong>itable <strong>and</strong> beneficial. He waspresident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> company from its beginning until his death. He was alsopresident <strong>and</strong> was <strong>the</strong> organizer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Eatonton Co-operative Creamery, <strong>the</strong>only one in <strong>the</strong> South. It was organized in 1910, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> plant is one <strong>of</strong> mostmodern equipment, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>re is operated in connection a refrigerating <strong>and</strong>ice making plant. The creamery is supplied largely from special herds <strong>of</strong>high grade Jersey cows. Doctor Weaver was a director <strong>and</strong> was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>organizers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Middle <strong>Georgia</strong> Bank at Eatonton, <strong>and</strong> was also <strong>the</strong> owner<strong>of</strong> <strong>and</strong> directs <strong>the</strong> farming operations <strong>of</strong> between 1,600 <strong>and</strong> 1,700 acres <strong>of</strong>l<strong>and</strong> in that county. Fraternally he was a Royal Arch Mason, <strong>and</strong> a member<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Baptist Church.In 1884 in Putnam County Doctor Weaver married Miss Tommie Carruth,daughter <strong>of</strong> Thomas <strong>and</strong> Hattie (Talbot) Carruth <strong>of</strong> Wilkcs County<strong>and</strong> a great-gr<strong>and</strong>niece <strong>of</strong> Governor Ma<strong>the</strong>w Talbot <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>. Her fa<strong>the</strong>ris a prominent merchant <strong>and</strong> planter at Mansfield, Louisiana. DoctorWeaver's three children were all born in Eatonton. Hattie Talbot is a youngwoman who since <strong>the</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> her education has taken up school work<strong>and</strong> is now connected with <strong>the</strong> schools at Talbotton in <strong>the</strong> county named inhonor <strong>of</strong> Governor Ma<strong>the</strong>w Talbot, one <strong>of</strong> her relatives. Henry GradyWeaver, <strong>the</strong> second child, was named in honor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> famous <strong>Georgia</strong> orator<strong>and</strong> statesman. This son was born an hour after Henry Grady's death, <strong>and</strong>when only one'day old, underv<strong>the</strong> guidance <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r's h<strong>and</strong>, signed acheck to a subscription fund for raising a monument in honor <strong>of</strong> ColonelGrady. This son is a graduate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Technology, was fora time a designer for <strong>the</strong> Haynes Motor Company <strong>of</strong> Kokomo, Indiana, <strong>and</strong>is now assistant general manager <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sun Motor Car Company <strong>of</strong> Elkhart,Indiana. The third child, Carruth Weaver, is a student at Milledgeville.Doctor Weaver himself came <strong>of</strong> a family which has always amplified education <strong>and</strong> culture, <strong>and</strong> furnished his own children with <strong>the</strong> best <strong>of</strong> collegeadvantages. Doctor Weaver started life without a dollar except what his ownhard work <strong>and</strong> energies procured. He had <strong>the</strong> pleasure <strong>of</strong> knowing that hislife had been a success in every way. His st<strong>and</strong>ing in <strong>the</strong> community, hismany friends, his own fine family, were all decided pro<strong>of</strong>s <strong>of</strong> a successfulcareer.HON.
