Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. Tift have had three children:Maurice W., Jr., who died at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> fifteen months in 1893; Asa F., born1896, a graduate <strong>of</strong> Albany High School <strong>and</strong> now connected with <strong>the</strong> AlbanyNational Bank; <strong>and</strong> William Wooten, born in 1902, <strong>and</strong> now attending <strong>the</strong>Albany High School. They also have an adopted child, David MercerSherman, who was born in Blakeley, <strong>Georgia</strong>, in 1906, <strong>and</strong> who is now attending<strong>the</strong> graded schools <strong>of</strong> Albany.THOMAS H. MILNEE. Among <strong>the</strong> most reliable <strong>and</strong> successful practitionersat <strong>the</strong> bar <strong>of</strong> Albany, Thomas H. Milner is also one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> prominent <strong>and</strong>capable business men <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> city. lie is a man <strong>of</strong> settled purpose <strong>and</strong> firmconvictions, who is practical in his aims whe<strong>the</strong>r as a man or as an attorney,<strong>and</strong> who, <strong>the</strong>refore, has advanced steadily to a high <strong>and</strong> substantial pr<strong>of</strong>essional reputation, having been effective also in <strong>the</strong> realization <strong>of</strong> those projectswhich are advanced by citizens <strong>of</strong> modern tendencies. During <strong>the</strong> more thanten years in which he has been engaged in practice at Albany, Colonel Milnerhas represented important interests in litigation which has attracted someattention <strong>and</strong> involved questions dem<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>the</strong> keenest legal acumen <strong>and</strong>skill, <strong>and</strong> his success in <strong>the</strong>se has been <strong>of</strong> a nature to give him a reputationthat has extended beyond <strong>the</strong> immediate confines <strong>of</strong> his home community.Mr. Milner was born in Bartow County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, April 9, 1875, <strong>and</strong> is ason <strong>of</strong> Hon. Thomas "W. <strong>and</strong> Annie (Harris) Milner, natives <strong>of</strong> this state.Mr. Milner comes naturally by his legal skill <strong>and</strong> predilection, for his fa<strong>the</strong>rwas one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading lawyers <strong>of</strong> Bartow County, a familiar figure in <strong>the</strong>courts in connection with important cases, <strong>and</strong> finally was elevated to <strong>the</strong>Superior bench, on which he served with dignity <strong>and</strong> ability for many years.Judge Milner in social life was a man <strong>of</strong> scholarly tastes <strong>and</strong> broad generalinformation, arising from his wide acquaintance with men <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> bestliterature. A man <strong>of</strong> fine qualities, he was social, tolerant, generous <strong>and</strong>genial, <strong>and</strong> his friends, both in <strong>and</strong> out <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional life, were legion. Hisdeath occurred in January, 1915, when he was sixty-eight years <strong>of</strong> age. JudgeMilner was a student at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Military Academy when <strong>the</strong> war 'between<strong>the</strong> states came on, <strong>and</strong> during <strong>the</strong> latter part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> war was a member <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> brave lads known as <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Cadets, who, with boyish bravery,marched to <strong>the</strong> front to repel <strong>the</strong> invaders from <strong>the</strong> North. Mrs. Mil tier, whowas also born in Bartow County, still survives, at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> sixty-three years,making her home at Albany. Of <strong>the</strong> six children in <strong>the</strong> family, Thomas 11. was<strong>the</strong> second in order <strong>of</strong> birth.Thomas H. Milner attended <strong>the</strong> public schools <strong>of</strong> Bartow County, <strong>and</strong> grewup in an atmosphere calculated to inspire in his youthful mind a desire; toenter <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> law. His studies were fur<strong>the</strong>r prosecuted at MmoryCollege, from which he was duly graduated, with a creditable record, <strong>and</strong>he <strong>the</strong>n entered <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Judge Harris, under whose preceptorsliip liemastered <strong>the</strong> many difficulties <strong>and</strong> perplexities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> law. Admitted to (.liebar in 1896, he at once began practice at Catersville, <strong>Georgia</strong>, but after aboutten years <strong>the</strong>re came to Albany, in 1905, <strong>and</strong> here has continued in an nclivegeneral practice. Mr. Milner is familiar with all branches <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>ession,<strong>and</strong> does not make a specialty <strong>of</strong> any department, <strong>and</strong> his knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>law <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> earnest, concise, logical <strong>and</strong> forceful manner in which h i; "sit, accounts in large measure for <strong>the</strong> high <strong>and</strong> substantial nature or nispr<strong>of</strong>essional st<strong>and</strong>ing. He is a valued member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> State BarAssociation <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dougherty County Bar Association, <strong>and</strong> both in pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>and</strong> social circles has many friends. In political matters a democrat,his pr<strong>of</strong>ession has so absorbed <strong>the</strong> bulk <strong>of</strong> his time <strong>and</strong> his mental strength,that he has not had <strong>the</strong> inclination to enter politics. As a widelv-read <strong>and</strong>thoughtful man, however, he has always had first convictions on all questions<strong>of</strong> public polity, <strong>and</strong> has endeavored by his influence to aid measures <strong>and</strong> men
