In addition to his home at Fitzgerald, Mr.Nichelson has extensive farming interests in Ben Hill County.STEPHEN Lovic MCELROY, M. D. Though one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> younger men <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>pr<strong>of</strong>ession, Doctor McElroy has a practice <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ing as a physician <strong>and</strong>surgeon at Ocilla which makes him easily one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leaders in <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionin Irwin County.He belongs to an old <strong>Georgia</strong> family <strong>and</strong> was born at Norcross in GwinnettCounty, <strong>Georgia</strong>, March 17, 1876, son <strong>of</strong> Stephen Tilly <strong>and</strong> Laura (Lively)McElroy, both <strong>of</strong> whom were born in DeKalb County, <strong>Georgia</strong>. Laura Livelywas <strong>the</strong> daughter, <strong>of</strong>'Milton Lively, <strong>and</strong> she died in August, 1883, at <strong>the</strong> age<strong>of</strong> thirty-seven in DeKalb County. The fa<strong>the</strong>r, who was born in August,1844, <strong>and</strong> grew up in DeKalb County, moved after <strong>the</strong> Civil war to Norcrosswhen <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Railroad was built through that section <strong>and</strong> closelyidentified himself with <strong>the</strong> business affairs <strong>of</strong> Norcross from its founding. Hebecame well known as a miller <strong>and</strong> furniture manufacturer <strong>and</strong> acquired extensive business interests at Norcross where he is now living retired. After<strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> his first, wife he married Mrs. Thomas Lowery, widow <strong>of</strong> Rev.Thomas Lowery, arid <strong>the</strong>y have two children, Nantilly <strong>and</strong> Mina. By <strong>the</strong>first marriage <strong>the</strong>re were six children: Fanny Nola, wife <strong>of</strong> M. E. Mat<strong>the</strong>ws,<strong>of</strong> Atlanta; William M., who is postmaster <strong>and</strong> a merchant at Norcross;Beatrice, wife <strong>of</strong> John Huddeston <strong>of</strong> Atlanta; Mina, wife <strong>of</strong> John N. Cobb <strong>of</strong>Jackspnville, Florida; Ruby, wife <strong>of</strong> Dr. William H. Bom <strong>of</strong> McRea, <strong>Georgia</strong>.The fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se children is active in <strong>the</strong> Methodist Episcopal Church <strong>and</strong>is a stanch democrat.The fifth among his mo<strong>the</strong>r's children, Dr. Stephen L. McElroy grew upin Norcross, gained an education in <strong>the</strong> public schools, also attended <strong>the</strong>Young Harris Institute, <strong>and</strong> in 1900 was graduated M. D. from <strong>the</strong> College<strong>of</strong> Physicians <strong>and</strong> Surgeons at Atlanta. Doctor McElroy has since done postgraduate wo'rk in Tulane University at New Orleans. He first began practiceat .Allapaha, <strong>Georgia</strong>, where he remained two years, afterwards located atVilla Coocha, <strong>and</strong> since <strong>the</strong> spring <strong>of</strong> 1907 has had his home in Ocilla. Herehis st<strong>and</strong>ing in <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ession is indicated in many ways. He is now servingas president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Irwin County Medical Society, <strong>and</strong> also belongs to <strong>the</strong>state medical organization. He is examining physician for <strong>the</strong> Prudential, <strong>the</strong>Pennsylvania, <strong>the</strong> Mutual, <strong>the</strong> Equitable, <strong>the</strong> Masonic Mutual, <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rnState Life <strong>and</strong> various o<strong>the</strong>r insurance companies.Fraternally he is a Mason, <strong>and</strong> is liberal in his support <strong>of</strong> all church <strong>and</strong>charitable organizations. Doctor McElroy owns <strong>and</strong> cultivates 200 acres <strong>of</strong>fine l<strong>and</strong> three miles from Ocilla in Irwin County. Mrs. McElroy is an activemember <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Methodist Episcopal Church at Ocilla <strong>and</strong> takes much part inchurch <strong>and</strong> social affairs.On November 27, 1902, at Allapaha, <strong>Georgia</strong>, Doctor McElroy marriedMiss Frances Belle McMillen, who was born in Berrien County, <strong>Georgia</strong>,daughter <strong>of</strong> N. J. <strong>and</strong> Julia (Griffin) McMillen. They have one daughter,Julia Addis McElroy, born at Ocilla September 10, 1907.HENDRICKS JENNINGS QUINCEY. Since 1905 established in practice atOcilla, county seat <strong>of</strong> Irwin County, Hendricks Jennings Quincey is a man <strong>of</strong>strong character, an able lawyer, possesses much literary taste, <strong>and</strong> has one<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> best equipped law libraries <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>fices in <strong>the</strong> Apalaka Circuit. His workas a lawyer <strong>and</strong> citizen has brought him no little distinction in that part <strong>of</strong><strong>Georgia</strong>, <strong>and</strong> he is just at <strong>the</strong> age when his powers are maturing <strong>and</strong> hisabilities coming into fruition. He is senior member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> firm <strong>of</strong> Quincey &Rice, which in many respects is <strong>the</strong> ablest firm <strong>of</strong> attorneys in Irwin County.His associate is Howard G. Rice <strong>of</strong> Elbert County.Though most <strong>of</strong> his career has been spent in <strong>Georgia</strong> he was- born in <strong>the</strong>
