D. D. Smith, a combinationwhich still continues <strong>and</strong> which has one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> largest <strong>and</strong> most importantpractices <strong>of</strong> this section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state. Mr. Roberts is a valued member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>various legal organizations <strong>and</strong> is a stanch supporter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> best ideals <strong>and</strong>ethics <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>ession.Mr. Roberts, aside from his pr<strong>of</strong>ession, has various interests, principalamong'which is his connection with <strong>the</strong> Merchants <strong>and</strong> Farmers Bank <strong>of</strong>Eastman, <strong>of</strong> which he is vice president. He is also a director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> CitizensBanking Company. His public labors have been numerous, helpful <strong>and</strong>energetically directed. For two terms he was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Eastman CityCouncil arid for one term mayor pro tern; is chairman <strong>and</strong> president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Eastman Board <strong>of</strong> Education; was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> State Legislatureduring <strong>the</strong> term 1909-10 as representative from Dodge County, <strong>and</strong> in 1911was appointed by Governor Joseph M. Brown solicitor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> City Court <strong>of</strong>Eastman for a term <strong>of</strong> four years, his distinguished <strong>and</strong> conscientious serviceduring that time winning him a re-election in 1913 for a term <strong>of</strong> four years.His political support has been given unreservedly to <strong>the</strong> democratic party,while his religious faith is that <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Presbyterian Church. Mi\ Roberts is<strong>the</strong> owner <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> finest homes at Eastman. He is fond <strong>of</strong> out-<strong>of</strong>-doorlife <strong>and</strong> an enthusiastic automobilist. His efforts in pr<strong>of</strong>essional, financial<strong>and</strong> business affairs have brought wealth <strong>and</strong> high social st<strong>and</strong>ing in <strong>the</strong>irtrain, <strong>and</strong> he includes among his friends representative men in many walks<strong>of</strong> life throughout this part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state.Mr. Roberts was married in Washington County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, September 3,1899, to Miss Annie C. Adams, daughter <strong>of</strong> Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. L. L. Adams, <strong>of</strong> awell-known Washington County family, who still survive <strong>and</strong> reside at Eastman. Five children have been born to Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. Roberts: David M.,born in 1901, <strong>and</strong> now attending <strong>the</strong> Eastman High School; Liddleton Adams,born in 1903, James Henry, Jr., born in 1905, <strong>and</strong> Bessie Ball, born in 1908,all^<strong>of</strong> whom are attending <strong>the</strong> graded schools; <strong>and</strong> Jack, born in 1912.•HON. W. M. WYNNE. The youth obliged to make his own way in <strong>the</strong>world, without <strong>the</strong> helpful influences <strong>of</strong> financial means or distinguished connections, should take heart from <strong>the</strong> experience <strong>of</strong> Hon. W. M. Wynne, who,during an interesting <strong>and</strong> useful career, has advanced from obscurity <strong>and</strong>humble circumstance to judicial prominence <strong>and</strong> financial independence.Practically his only asset when he started upon his career was a public schooleducation, but so well did he direct his activities that he rose to a leadingplace in <strong>the</strong> business world, <strong>and</strong> three years ago, when Bleckley County wasorganized, he was chosen by his fellow citizens to act as its first ordinary.Judge Wynne was born November 18, 1863, in Wilkinson County, <strong>Georgia</strong>,<strong>and</strong> is a son <strong>of</strong> W. W. <strong>and</strong> Elizabeth (Bostwick) Wynne. His fa<strong>the</strong>r, anative <strong>Georgia</strong>n, was brought up on a farm <strong>and</strong> when <strong>the</strong> Civil war broke outenlisted in <strong>the</strong> Confederate army <strong>and</strong> wore <strong>the</strong> uniform <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Gray inLee's army. After four years <strong>of</strong> brave <strong>and</strong> faithful service he returned toWilkinson County <strong>and</strong> again engaged in <strong>the</strong> pursuits <strong>of</strong> farming, in whichhe continued to be occupied until <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> his retirement from activelabor. He is still living at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> seventy-nine years, <strong>and</strong> is adjudgedone <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> substantial men <strong>of</strong> Bleckley County. Mrs. Wynne, also a native<strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>, died in 1908, at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> seventy years, having been <strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r<strong>of</strong> seven children, <strong>of</strong> whom W. M. was <strong>the</strong> fourth in order <strong>of</strong> birth.W. M. Wynne attended <strong>the</strong> public schools <strong>of</strong> Wilkinson County in hisboyhood <strong>and</strong> following <strong>the</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> his education returned to hisfa<strong>the</strong>r's farm <strong>and</strong> for six years was engaged in agricultural labors. In 1890 ,he turned his attention to business lines, becoming <strong>the</strong> proprietor <strong>of</strong> a warehouse at Cochran, which city has continued to be his field <strong>of</strong> endeavor to <strong>the</strong>
