3144 GEORGIA AND GEORGIANSevery way was an active <strong>and</strong> working member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state body <strong>and</strong> took aleading part in <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> judiciary <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r committees. Mr. Faircloth.undertook <strong>the</strong> management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> campaign <strong>of</strong> Hon. J. L. Kent in hisrace against strong opposition for <strong>the</strong> judgeship <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Superior courts <strong>of</strong>Dublin Circuit, <strong>and</strong> had <strong>the</strong> satisfaction <strong>of</strong> gaining a splendid victory for<strong>the</strong> judge.Mr. Faircloth has since 1909 been a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> firm <strong>of</strong> Faircloth &Claxton, his partner being Charles S. Claxton, a lawyer <strong>of</strong> ability <strong>and</strong> broadknowledge, <strong>and</strong> this combination is one which has gained <strong>the</strong> respect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>legal concerns <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> county. He is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> State Bar Association, with <strong>the</strong> members <strong>of</strong> which he is popular, as he is with all his acquaintances. Aside from his legal practice, Mr. Faircloth is largely interested infarming in Johnson County, where he is <strong>the</strong> owner <strong>of</strong> a valuable property.Mr. Faireloth is well known, in fraternal circles, being a past master inMasonry, a past noble gr<strong>and</strong> in Odd Fellowship <strong>and</strong> chancellor comm<strong>and</strong>er<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Knights <strong>of</strong> Pythias. With his family he belongs to <strong>the</strong> MethodistChurch.On November 16, 1893, at Wrightsville, Mr. Faircloth was married toMiss Lena Kennedy, <strong>of</strong> this city, <strong>and</strong> one child has come to this union: Aiiton,born at Wrightsville, May 29, 1896, <strong>and</strong> now a student <strong>of</strong> Gordon Institute.WILLIAM CALH'OUN THOMPSON, M. The efficient modern doctor doesnot depend entirely upon his own skill, but surrounds himself so far as possiblewith every personal <strong>and</strong> material agency that will aid him in accomplishing<strong>the</strong> essential purposes <strong>of</strong> his vocation, <strong>and</strong> avails himself <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> facilities foundin equipment <strong>and</strong> such institutions as hospitals.It was as a result <strong>of</strong> acting upon this principle that Dr. William C.Thompson undertook <strong>and</strong> built up a work since 1914 for which <strong>the</strong> community<strong>of</strong> Dublin owes him a lasting debt <strong>of</strong> gratitude. Realizing how much <strong>the</strong>people among whom he <strong>and</strong> his bro<strong>the</strong>r physicians practice needed <strong>the</strong> superior equipment <strong>and</strong> facilities which only an institution can give, DoctorThompson, against <strong>the</strong> advice <strong>of</strong> his fellow practitioners, who believed his plannot feasible or at least premature, <strong>and</strong> would not shoulder <strong>the</strong> burden withhim, alone started out to build <strong>and</strong> equip a hospital. It was called Thompson's Private Sanatorium <strong>and</strong> has been more than an ordinary success.After Doctor Thompson had done <strong>the</strong> pioneer work his fellow physiciansrecognized its value <strong>and</strong> four <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m are now actively associated with himin hospital work. The institution is now called <strong>the</strong> Dublin Sanatorium.Doctor Thompson, head <strong>of</strong> this institution was born December 16, 1883,near Anderson, South Carolina. He gained his early education in <strong>the</strong>schools <strong>the</strong>re, later going to Clemson College where he graduated Bachelor<strong>of</strong> Science in 1906. Then choosing medicine as his vocation, he entered <strong>the</strong>Atlanta School <strong>of</strong> Medicine from which he graduated in 1910. The following eight months he spent as interne at <strong>the</strong> Tabernacle Infirmary in Atlanta.For one year he was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state board <strong>of</strong> health engaged in investigation work.In 1911 deciding to locate permanently he chose <strong>the</strong> enterprising littleCity <strong>of</strong> Dublin. Going <strong>the</strong>re a total stranger, he soon had a large followingdue to his thorough training, special qualifications <strong>and</strong> personal characteras a gentleman <strong>and</strong> scholar. Many times in critical cases he has most ablydemonstrated his ability, as practitioner, diagnostician <strong>and</strong> surgeon <strong>and</strong> henew enjoys <strong>the</strong> fullest confidence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> people. Heret<strong>of</strong>ore every body hadto go away for operations <strong>and</strong> hospital treatments, but now <strong>the</strong>y come fromfar <strong>and</strong> near to Dublin, thanks to <strong>the</strong> farsighted, energetic, <strong>and</strong> competentyoung doctor.But Doctor Thompson is not content to rest on his laurels. He is anearnest student <strong>and</strong> active thinker, always on <strong>the</strong> alert for new <strong>and</strong> improved
