Finally after eight years, Doctor De Lamar felt himself readyto enter a broader <strong>and</strong> more prolific field, <strong>and</strong> in 1914 came to Douglas, wherehe was almost at once recognized as a practitioner <strong>of</strong> superior ability, <strong>and</strong>where his practice has since grown to large proportions. In addition to attending to <strong>the</strong> duties <strong>of</strong> this large personal clientele, he is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> staff <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> Douglas Hospital. In a pr<strong>of</strong>ession where advancement depends uponindividual merit <strong>and</strong> skill, Doctor De Lamar has won a very enviable position<strong>and</strong> in his practice shows a comprehensive <strong>and</strong> thorough underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>principles <strong>of</strong> medical science <strong>and</strong> adaptability for <strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong>- sufferinghumanity. His work has received <strong>the</strong> endorsement <strong>of</strong> public opinion <strong>and</strong> heis <strong>the</strong>refore accorded a liberal patronage. In keeping abreast <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> advancements made in his calling, Doctor De Lamar has allied himself with some <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> leading medical organizations, including <strong>the</strong> American Medical Association, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> State Medical Society, <strong>the</strong> C<strong>of</strong>fee County Medical Society<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Eleventh District Medical Society. While residing at Hamilton hewas honored by election to <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Harris County MedicalSociety. In 1916 Doctor De Lamar took post-graduate work in <strong>the</strong> hospitals<strong>of</strong> New York City. He is a Mason <strong>and</strong> a member <strong>of</strong> his college fraternity,while his religious connection is with <strong>the</strong> Methodist Episcopal Church, inwhich he is steward.Doctor De Lamar was married September 26,1906, at West Point, <strong>Georgia</strong>,to Miss Jessie L. Mallory, daughter <strong>of</strong> Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. T. J. Mallory, <strong>of</strong> WestPoint, members <strong>of</strong> old <strong>and</strong> prominent families. To this union <strong>the</strong>re havebeen born four children: Sarah Marion, who died March 8, 1907, ten daysafter birth; Edna Rebecca, born at Hamilton, April 30, 1909; Martha L., bornJune 28, 1913, at Hamilton; <strong>and</strong> Ledra Illes, born July 19, 1915, at Douglas.R. 0. BAKKSDALE. The president- <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Citizens National Bank <strong>of</strong> Washington has earned by his own efforts <strong>the</strong> confidence <strong>and</strong> esteem which are paidhim by a host <strong>of</strong> people in Wilkes County. He has an unassailable reputationfor integrity as well as financial ability, <strong>and</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong> years has beenone <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading citizens in that section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state.Though nearly all his life has been spent in <strong>Georgia</strong> he was born in MonroeCounty, Tennessee, May 3, 1860, a son <strong>of</strong> B. F. <strong>and</strong> Ann E. (Oliver) Barksdale,<strong>the</strong> former a native <strong>of</strong> Lincoln County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> latter <strong>of</strong> AndersonCounty, Tennessee. B. F. Barksdale in young manhood moved to Tennessee, was married <strong>the</strong>re, but in 1863 returned to <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>and</strong> settled inWilkes County, where during <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> his life he conducted a farm. In1863 he enlisted in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Militia <strong>and</strong> took part in some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> concludingcampaigns <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> war. His death occurred at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> sixty-nine in 1901 inWilkes County. His wife passed away in 1910 in <strong>the</strong> same county at <strong>the</strong> age<strong>of</strong> seventy-four.The second in a large family <strong>of</strong> eight children, R. 0. Barksdale attendedschool in Wilkes County, but was still quite young when he entered upon anextensive apprenticeship in business affairs. For a time he was bookkeeperin a store at Washington, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>n became local agent at Washington for <strong>the</strong><strong>Georgia</strong> Railroad Company. His associations with that road continued forfourteen years, following which he was in <strong>the</strong> warehouse <strong>and</strong> cotton businessup to 1907, when he sold out. In 1907 he took an active part in organizing<strong>the</strong> Citizens National Bank at Washington, with a capital stock <strong>of</strong> $50,000, <strong>and</strong>has since been its president. This almost from <strong>the</strong> beginning has been-a prosperous institution, <strong>and</strong> has always been conducted on safe <strong>and</strong> conservativelines.Mr. Barksdale served three terms in <strong>the</strong> State Legislature from 1905 to1910 inclusive, <strong>and</strong> is now a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> city council <strong>of</strong> Washington. Heis a democrat, <strong>and</strong> a Royal Arch Mason.On January 11, 1887, he married Miss Kate Foreman, daughter <strong>of</strong> R. F.
