At first glance <strong>the</strong> life <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ordinary man <strong>of</strong> businesswould not seem to contain material appealing to <strong>the</strong> general public. However,if we take into consideration <strong>the</strong> effort, concentration, stability <strong>and</strong> perseverance which are necessary concomitants in elevating a man from obscurityto prominence, from mediocrity to established position, his career may proveto be not without its interesting features. In <strong>the</strong> career <strong>of</strong> D. C. Albert,cashier <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Citizens Bank <strong>of</strong> Ashburn, <strong>Georgia</strong>, <strong>the</strong>se features pertain. Ithas been his fortune to have recognized, appreciated <strong>and</strong> grasped his opportunities, to have moulded his abilities to fit his needs, <strong>and</strong> to have firmlyentrenched himself in <strong>the</strong> confidence <strong>of</strong> his business associates.Mr. Albert was born in Rockdale County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, in August, 1878, <strong>and</strong> isa son <strong>of</strong> John S. <strong>and</strong> Am<strong>and</strong>a (Deal) Albert. His parents, natives <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>,were reared <strong>and</strong> educated in this state, <strong>and</strong> passed <strong>the</strong>ir lives in RockdaleCounty, where John S. Albert was engaged in agricultural ventures. Hebecame well known as a successful planter, an energetic <strong>and</strong> industrious man<strong>of</strong> business who made his acumen count in commercial circles, <strong>and</strong> a citizenwho contributed his full share to <strong>the</strong> welfare <strong>and</strong> development <strong>of</strong> his homecommunity. His death occurred in 1901, when he was sixty-two years <strong>of</strong> age,Mrs. Albert having died in <strong>the</strong> year previous at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> sixty-five years.There were three daughters <strong>and</strong> five sons in <strong>the</strong> family, <strong>of</strong> whom two sonsare deceased, <strong>the</strong> survivors being: E. S., W. M., A. J., Mrs. M. B. Sorrow,Mrs. T. M. Rowan <strong>and</strong> Mrs. A. T. Bishop.The fourth in order <strong>of</strong> birth <strong>of</strong> his parents' children, D. C. Albert passedhis boyhood on <strong>the</strong> home plantation in <strong>the</strong> same manner <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r lads <strong>of</strong> hisvicinity <strong>and</strong> time. He was given a good education in <strong>the</strong> graded schools, following which he took a high school course at Conyers, <strong>the</strong> county seat <strong>of</strong>Rockdale County, <strong>and</strong> after his graduation <strong>the</strong>refrom, in 1890, entered a commercial college <strong>and</strong> prepared himself for a business career. His first experience in a business way was in connection with a mercantile establishmentat Conyers, where he remained for ten years, <strong>and</strong> in 1901 came to Ashburn,where he engaged in business in <strong>the</strong> same line <strong>and</strong> continued <strong>the</strong>rein until1909. In that year Mr. Albert began his connection with financial affairs asbookkeeper <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Citizens Bank, <strong>and</strong> in <strong>the</strong> year following was advanced to<strong>the</strong> position <strong>of</strong> cashier, which he has since retained. Mr. Albert has an excellent reputation in banking circles, <strong>and</strong> is known among his associates as a man<strong>of</strong> keen judgment <strong>and</strong> much executive ability who has mastered <strong>the</strong> fine points<strong>of</strong> banking <strong>and</strong> who combines in his operations <strong>the</strong> qualities <strong>of</strong> banking caution<strong>and</strong> progressive principles. While merch<strong>and</strong>ising <strong>and</strong> financial affairs haveattracted <strong>the</strong> greater part <strong>of</strong> his attention, he has also had experience in o<strong>the</strong>rlines, for prior to entering business college he was engaged in teaching schoolfor two years, thus gaining his start. Politically a democrat, he has not beenidentified with public matters as an <strong>of</strong>fice holder, but has always been interested in <strong>the</strong> things that affect his community <strong>and</strong> has given his moral support<strong>and</strong> financial aid to progressive measures. In fraternal life, Mr. Albert is aMason <strong>of</strong> high st<strong>and</strong>ing, having passed through all <strong>the</strong> orders up to <strong>and</strong> including <strong>the</strong> Shrine, <strong>and</strong> is likewise a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Benevolent <strong>and</strong> ProtectiveOrder <strong>of</strong> Elks, <strong>the</strong> Royal Arcanum <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Knights <strong>of</strong> Pythias.In July, 1897, at Conyers, <strong>Georgia</strong>, Mr. Albert was united in marriagewith Miss Alice Hollingsworth, daughter <strong>of</strong> Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. M. F. Hollingsworth,<strong>and</strong> a member <strong>of</strong> a family well <strong>and</strong> prominently known at Conyers.They are <strong>the</strong> parents <strong>of</strong> two children: Louise, who was born at Ashburu. in1904; <strong>and</strong> Sarah Willy, who was born at Mansfield, <strong>Georgia</strong>, in 1908. Mr.<strong>and</strong> Mrs. Albert are consistent members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Presbyterian Church, <strong>and</strong>have many friends in religious as well as social circles.W.
