GEORGIA AND GEORGIANS 3119work <strong>the</strong> Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia, spent a part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year1913 in <strong>the</strong> New York Post-Graduate School, was at New Orleans in 1914in Tulane University, <strong>and</strong> for a part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year 1915 was at Johns HopkinsUniversity in Baltimore. ^His first practice was done at Unadilla, <strong>Georgia</strong>, where he remained from1894 to 1903, since which latter year he has been established at Cordele. In1906 Doctor McArthur founded <strong>and</strong> has since been president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> medicalstaff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cordele Sanitarium, *which has had a v*ry prosperous growth <strong>and</strong>is now one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading hospitals in Sou<strong>the</strong>rn <strong>Georgia</strong>.He is a deacon in <strong>the</strong> Primitive Baptist Church <strong>and</strong> in politics is a democrat. In September, 1895, at Unadilla he married Mrs. Fannie (Henderson)Horn, widow <strong>of</strong> Samuel Horn. They are <strong>the</strong> parents <strong>of</strong> four children: Mary,born in 1896, at Unadilla <strong>and</strong> a graduate <strong>of</strong> Braun College at A<strong>the</strong>ns with<strong>the</strong> class <strong>of</strong> 1915; Charles Eugene, born in 1902 at Unadila <strong>and</strong> attendingschool; Thomas Alton, born in 1905 at Cordele; <strong>and</strong> Marvin Chester, born in1908. iBENJAMIN BOCHARD. Prom <strong>the</strong> position <strong>of</strong> a humble grocer clerk Benjamin Bochard during his career in <strong>Georgia</strong> has become <strong>the</strong> leading wholesalegrocer in <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state, <strong>and</strong> is now at <strong>the</strong> head <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> largest <strong>and</strong> most flourishing enterprises <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> kind at Brunswick.He was born at Macon, <strong>Georgia</strong>, November 30, 1866, a son <strong>of</strong> Abraham<strong>and</strong> Amelia (Fendig) Bochard. His fa<strong>the</strong>r was born in Prussia <strong>and</strong> his mo<strong>the</strong>rin Bavaria, Germany, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> former came to America when a young boy<strong>and</strong> a short time before <strong>the</strong> war located in Macon, <strong>Georgia</strong>. During <strong>the</strong> warhe served in <strong>the</strong> Home Guard <strong>of</strong> "Wheeler's Brigade. In 1867 he moved foBrunswick <strong>and</strong> was engaged in <strong>the</strong> retail grocery business <strong>the</strong>re until his deathat <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> seventy-three. The mo<strong>the</strong>r was married in Indiana <strong>and</strong> diedin Brunswick when about sixty-four years <strong>of</strong> age.The youngest in a large family <strong>of</strong> eight children, Benjamin Bochardacquired his early education in <strong>the</strong> public schools <strong>of</strong> Brunswick, <strong>and</strong> as a boy.learned <strong>the</strong> grocery business under his fa<strong>the</strong>r. Later for a period <strong>of</strong> fiveyears he was in <strong>the</strong> insurance business, but in 1895 he established <strong>the</strong> Bochardproduce business <strong>and</strong> wholesale grocery. He started with a modest capital,but his tireless energy has brought <strong>the</strong> concern to large proportions <strong>and</strong> it isnow incorporated <strong>and</strong> carries <strong>the</strong> best stock <strong>of</strong> general grocery supplies inthis section <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>. Mr. Bochard is president, Alfred Fendig is vicepresident, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> secretary <strong>and</strong> cashier is S. H. H. Herndon.Mr. Bochard is a democrat, is a Master Mason <strong>and</strong> is affiliated with <strong>the</strong>Benevolent <strong>and</strong> Protective Order <strong>of</strong> Elks <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> I. 0. B. B.On April 16, 1902, at Greenwood, Mississippi, he married Miss MarieReiman, daughter <strong>of</strong> Herman Reiman <strong>and</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> Greenwood. To <strong>the</strong>ir marriage have been born two children, both <strong>of</strong> whom are now in school, <strong>and</strong> bothwere born at Brunswick. Tillie R., <strong>the</strong> daughter, was born in 1904, <strong>and</strong> Herman A., was born in 1909.Louis W. MOBLBY, M. D. One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> oldest physicians in active practicein Dooly County is Dr. Louis W. Mobley, who is a veteran <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Confederatewar <strong>and</strong> has been in active practice at Vienna for more than forty years.He was born in Crocker County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, near Macon, March 4, 1842, ason <strong>of</strong> M. H. <strong>and</strong> Margaret (Owen) Mobley, his fa<strong>the</strong>r a native <strong>of</strong> SouthCarolina <strong>and</strong> his mo<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>. Gr<strong>and</strong>fa<strong>the</strong>r H. A. Mobley emigrated to<strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>and</strong> located in Croeker County, settling on a tract <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong> on <strong>the</strong> eastside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Okmulgee River. M. H. Mobley, his son, subsequently became awell known planter in that locality <strong>and</strong> died in 1892 at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> eighty-one.His wife passed away in 1893 at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> seventy-one.The oldest <strong>of</strong> three children, Doctor Mobley as a boy attended <strong>the</strong> country
