He is a member <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> State Medical Society <strong>and</strong> is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most influential <strong>and</strong> valuedmembers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Marionj County Medical Society. His political allegiance isgiven unreservedly to <strong>the</strong> democratic party, he <strong>and</strong> his wife hold membershipin <strong>the</strong> Methodist Episcopal Church, South, <strong>and</strong> he is affiliated with <strong>the</strong> Masonicfraternity, <strong>the</strong>. Knights <strong>of</strong> Pythias <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Woodmen <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> World.On <strong>the</strong> 27th <strong>of</strong> October, 1880, was solemnized <strong>the</strong> marriage <strong>of</strong> DoctorDrane to Miss Elizabeth Butt, who likewise was born <strong>and</strong> reared in MarionCounty <strong>and</strong> who is a daughter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Hon. Edgar M. <strong>and</strong> Mary (Matthis)Butt, both natives <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>and</strong> representatives <strong>of</strong> old <strong>and</strong> influential families <strong>of</strong> this state. Judge Edgar M. Butt long held precedence as one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>leading lawyers <strong>and</strong> jurists <strong>of</strong> Marion County, <strong>and</strong> served many years on <strong>the</strong>bench <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Columbus Circuit, both he <strong>and</strong> his wife having been residents<strong>of</strong> Buena Vista at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir death. The marriage <strong>of</strong> Doctor <strong>and</strong> Mrs.Drain was celebrated on <strong>the</strong> twentieth anniversary <strong>of</strong> his birth, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir homelife has been one ideal in all <strong>of</strong> its relations, while <strong>the</strong>irs has been <strong>the</strong> satisfaction <strong>of</strong> rearing <strong>the</strong>ir children to lives <strong>of</strong> usefulness <strong>and</strong> honor. Pr<strong>of</strong>.Edgar Drane, <strong>the</strong> eldest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir children, was graduated in <strong>the</strong> University<strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>and</strong> at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> twenty years ^initiated his career as a teacherin <strong>the</strong> public schools <strong>of</strong> his native state. In <strong>the</strong> pedagogic pr<strong>of</strong>ession his service has been marked by distinctive success <strong>and</strong> since 1912 his service has beengiven in <strong>the</strong> capacity <strong>of</strong> superintendent <strong>of</strong> schools, a preferment which heholds at Buena Vista at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> this writing, in 1916. Mary Lou, <strong>the</strong>second <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> children, is <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> Edward R. Jordan, <strong>of</strong> Ellaville, SchleyCounty. Minnie is <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> Cecil Burt <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>y maintain <strong>the</strong>ir home atColumbus, this state. Margaret is <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> Frank W. Lowe, a prominentmerchant <strong>of</strong> Buena Vista. Dr. Arthur Hall Drane is following in <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional footsteps <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r, with whom he is associated in practice atBuena Vista, he having been graduated in <strong>the</strong> medical department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> as a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> class <strong>of</strong> 1915. Elizabeth, <strong>the</strong> youngest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> children, is <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> Lovic G. McMichel, a progressive <strong>and</strong> representative agriculturist <strong>of</strong> Marion County.WILLIAM MAKCELLUS HOWARD, lawyer <strong>and</strong> judge, <strong>of</strong> Augusta, was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National House <strong>of</strong> Representatives in <strong>the</strong> Fifty-fifth <strong>and</strong> Sixty-firstcongresses, inclusive (1897-1911). He is a native <strong>of</strong> Louisiana, born in Berwick City, December 6, 1857. Graduating from <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> in1877, he was admitted to <strong>the</strong> bar in 1880, <strong>and</strong> entered practice at Lexington,<strong>Georgia</strong>. From 1884 to 1896 he was solicitor general <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nor<strong>the</strong>rn JudicialCircuit, <strong>and</strong> in <strong>the</strong> following year commenced his congressional career. Since1910 he has also been a trustee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Carnegie Endowment for InternationalPeace, <strong>and</strong> in 1911-13 served as a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tariff Board.CHARLES WILLIAM HUBNER, assistant librarian <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Carnegie <strong>Library</strong>,at Atlanta since 1896, is a native <strong>of</strong> Maryl<strong>and</strong>, born in Baltimore January16, 1835.
