3048 GEORGIA AND GEORGIANSpendent Order <strong>of</strong> Odd Fellows <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Order <strong>of</strong> Railway Conductors,, <strong>and</strong> isan active member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Atlanta Bar Association.On <strong>the</strong> 27th <strong>of</strong> April, 1892, was solemnized <strong>the</strong> marriage <strong>of</strong> Mr. Coburnto Miss Ida Z. Mallory, who likewise was born <strong>and</strong> reared in <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>and</strong> whois a daughter <strong>of</strong> Augustus H. Mallory, a representative farmer <strong>and</strong> navalstores operator. The three bhildren <strong>of</strong> this union are Zoe Louise, WilliamSprigman, Jr., <strong>and</strong> Mary Augusta, all <strong>of</strong> whom remain, at <strong>the</strong> parental home.WILLIAM S. With characteristic earnestness <strong>and</strong> singleness<strong>of</strong> purpose has Doctor Cook bent his energies to achieving worthy successin his exacting pr<strong>of</strong>ession, with <strong>the</strong> result that he holds secure place as one<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> able <strong>and</strong> resourceful physicians <strong>and</strong> surgeons <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>and</strong> as suchmerits specific consideration in this history. He is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leaders in <strong>the</strong>ranks <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>ession in Dougherty County, with residence <strong>and</strong> headquartersin <strong>the</strong> fine little City <strong>of</strong> Albany, <strong>the</strong> county seat.Doctor Cook was born at Bell Mills, Cleburne County, Alabama, on <strong>the</strong>19th <strong>of</strong> August, 1884, <strong>and</strong> is a son <strong>of</strong> George Washington Cook <strong>and</strong> MalindaJ. (Pote) Cook, <strong>the</strong> former a native <strong>of</strong> Alabama <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> latter <strong>of</strong> Jonesboro,Clayton County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, whence her parents removed to Alabama whenshe was a girl. The parents <strong>of</strong> Doctor Cook now reside at Bowdon, CarrollCounty, <strong>Georgia</strong>, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r has given <strong>the</strong> major part <strong>of</strong> his active lifeto effective association with <strong>the</strong> basic industries <strong>of</strong> agriculture <strong>and</strong> stockgrowing.He celebrated in 1916 his sixty-ninth birthday anniversary, <strong>and</strong>his wife her sixty-seventh <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>y celebrated <strong>the</strong>ir golden wedding anniversary February 10, 1916. The Cook family was insistently loyal to <strong>the</strong> cause<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Confederacy during <strong>the</strong> stormy period <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Civil war, <strong>and</strong> thoughGeorge W. Coo-k was too young to enter military service, his bro<strong>the</strong>r Frankwas a valiant soldier in <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn ranks during virtually <strong>the</strong> entire period<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ' war between <strong>the</strong> states <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> North <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> South. Of <strong>the</strong>children <strong>of</strong> George W. <strong>and</strong> Malinda J. (Pote) Cook, Dr. William S., <strong>of</strong> thisreview, was <strong>the</strong> ninth-in order <strong>of</strong> birth, <strong>and</strong> concerning <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs <strong>the</strong> following brief data are entered: Vertus A. is a resident <strong>of</strong> Henin, Cleburne County,Alabama; John E. B. was a resident <strong>of</strong> Bell Mills, that county, at <strong>the</strong> time<strong>of</strong> his death, which occurred when he was thirty-eight years <strong>of</strong> age; Eva, whodied in 1903 became <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> Wood Hanna <strong>of</strong> Heflin, Alabama; George R.resides at Carrollton, <strong>Georgia</strong>; Amos D. remains at <strong>the</strong> old home <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> family, at Bell Mills, Alabama; Mrs. Lilla McEachern is a resident <strong>of</strong> Montieello,Florida, <strong>and</strong> Mrs. Rosa McClindoii <strong>of</strong> Coleman, Perry County, Alabama;James is deceased; Mrs. Love Sherrell is a resident <strong>of</strong> Bowdon, <strong>Georgia</strong>; Dr.Henry M. is engaged in <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> medicine at Tampa, Florida; W. B.is serving in <strong>the</strong> United States army <strong>and</strong> in 1916 was stationed at Belfast,Washington; Mrs. Minnie Jacobs maintains her home at Waco, <strong>Georgia</strong>;<strong>and</strong> Ozro resides in <strong>the</strong> City <strong>of</strong> Lexington, Kentucky.As a boy Dr. William S. Cook accompanied his parents on <strong>the</strong>ir removalto <strong>Georgia</strong>, <strong>and</strong> his early education was gained principally in <strong>the</strong> publicschools <strong>of</strong> Bremen, Haralson County, this state. A member <strong>of</strong> a largefamily <strong>of</strong> children, he early began to depend largely upon his own resources, <strong>and</strong> to his own energy <strong>and</strong> ambition is due his advancement to hispresent status as a man <strong>of</strong> liberal education <strong>and</strong> as a physician <strong>and</strong> surgeonadmirably equipped for his chosen pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Not to be deflected from <strong>the</strong>course <strong>of</strong> his ambition, he finally entered <strong>the</strong> Atlanta College <strong>of</strong> Physicians& Surgeons, in which excellent institution he was graduated as_a member <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> class <strong>of</strong> 1907 <strong>and</strong> with <strong>the</strong> well earned degree <strong>of</strong> Doctor <strong>of</strong> Medicine. Aftergraduation he had <strong>the</strong> good judgment to reinforce . himself still fur<strong>the</strong>rthrough valuable <strong>and</strong> diversified clinical experience, <strong>the</strong> same having beengained by service <strong>of</strong> one year as interne in St. Joseph's Hospital, in <strong>the</strong> City<strong>of</strong> Savannah, <strong>and</strong> by a similar period <strong>of</strong> association with Toh Infirmary, in
