3036 GEORGIA AND GEORGIANSraising in his part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state, W. H. Lasseter has been a factor in affairs<strong>of</strong> Dooly County since early youth.He was born on a farm in Pulaski County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, July 16, 1875, a son<strong>of</strong> Isaac S. <strong>and</strong> Martha (Ham) Lasseter. His fa<strong>the</strong>r was born in TwiggsCounty <strong>and</strong> his mo<strong>the</strong>r in Dooly County, while <strong>the</strong> paternal gr<strong>and</strong>fa<strong>the</strong>r wasa native <strong>of</strong> South Carolina. Isaac S. Lasseter, who died in Dooly County,in 1912, served throughout <strong>the</strong> war between <strong>the</strong> states as a private in <strong>the</strong>Eighteenth <strong>Georgia</strong> Infantry, <strong>and</strong> after <strong>the</strong> war he became successfullyidentified with farming <strong>and</strong> with <strong>the</strong> timber business <strong>and</strong> except in 1875 wasa resident <strong>of</strong> Dooly County. The mo<strong>the</strong>r is still living at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> sixty-fouryears.The third in a family <strong>of</strong> eleven children, Wade H. Lasseter gi ew up on hisfa<strong>the</strong>r's farm near Vienna, <strong>and</strong> at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> twenty-two he entered EmoryCollege, where he was graduated in 1901. He had <strong>the</strong> gift <strong>of</strong> oratory fromearly youth, <strong>and</strong> his inclinations <strong>and</strong> abilities showed that he was best fittedfor <strong>the</strong> law. After two years as a teacher he entered Mercer University atMacon, <strong>Georgia</strong>, where he was graduated in <strong>the</strong> law department in 1904.Since <strong>the</strong>n he has been in active practice at Vienna, <strong>and</strong> in June, 1911, waselected judge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> City Court, an <strong>of</strong>fice he held until <strong>the</strong> court was abolishedin 1913. Judge Lasseter is also known as proprietor <strong>of</strong> a farm <strong>and</strong> establishment for <strong>the</strong> breeding <strong>and</strong> raising <strong>of</strong> Duroc-Jersey swine <strong>and</strong> shorthorn beefcattle <strong>and</strong> has succeeded in introducing some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> purest blood in thoselines into his district <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>.He is a democrat, was nominated for <strong>the</strong> Legislature in 1916, is chairman<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> local board <strong>of</strong> education, a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> County Bar Association, <strong>and</strong>fraternally is a Royal Arch Mason <strong>and</strong> also affiliated with <strong>the</strong> Knights <strong>of</strong>Pythias, <strong>the</strong> Benevolent <strong>and</strong> Protective Order <strong>of</strong> Elks <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> IndependentOrder <strong>of</strong> Odd Fellows. On November 1, 1903, in Dooly County he marriedMiss Eva Penny, daughter <strong>of</strong> Judge Z. T. Penny. They are <strong>the</strong> parents <strong>of</strong>two children: Bill, born at Vienna in 1905 <strong>and</strong> attending school; <strong>and</strong> Mollie,born in 1910., HERBERT A. PEACOCK. The very discipline that fits a man for <strong>the</strong> legalpr<strong>of</strong>ession has also a concomitant influence in making him specially eligiblefor <strong>the</strong> directing <strong>and</strong> formulating <strong>of</strong> governmental policies <strong>and</strong> for participation effectively in public affairs in general. That <strong>the</strong> ability <strong>of</strong> Hon. HerbertA. Peacock along this line has not lacked for popular appreciation has beensignificantly shown alike in his successful work <strong>and</strong> well won prestige in hispr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>and</strong> by his having been called upon to serve in <strong>the</strong> Legislature <strong>of</strong>his native commonwealth. He is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading lawyers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> youngergeneration in Southwestern <strong>Georgia</strong>, is engaged in <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>ession at Albany, <strong>the</strong> metropolis <strong>and</strong> judicial center <strong>of</strong> Dougherty County,where he is senior member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> firm <strong>of</strong> Peacock & Gardner, which maintainslaw <strong>of</strong>fices not only at Albany but also at Camilla, with control <strong>of</strong> a speciallylarge <strong>and</strong> important law business.Mr. Peacock was born at Smithville, Lee County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, on <strong>the</strong> 28th <strong>of</strong>September, 1879, <strong>and</strong> is a son <strong>of</strong> Dr. Lucious A. <strong>and</strong> Oriska (Batts) Peacock,both <strong>of</strong> whom likewise were born <strong>and</strong> reared in this state. The parents <strong>of</strong>Doctor Peacock came from North Carolina to <strong>Georgia</strong> in an early day <strong>and</strong>established <strong>the</strong>ir home in Macon County, where <strong>the</strong> doctor was born <strong>and</strong> reared.He carefully prepared himself for <strong>the</strong> medical pr<strong>of</strong>ession, <strong>of</strong> which he continued an honored <strong>and</strong> able representative in Lee County for <strong>the</strong> longperiod, <strong>of</strong> forty years <strong>and</strong> up to within a short time <strong>of</strong> his death, whichoccurred in February, 1899. Doctor Peacock was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> gallant sons <strong>of</strong><strong>Georgia</strong> who represented this state as a soldier <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Confederacy during <strong>the</strong>entire period <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Civil war. He was twice wounded, took part in manyengagements <strong>and</strong> during a portion <strong>of</strong> his period <strong>of</strong> service he was identified
