3020 GEORGIA AND GEORGIANS<strong>the</strong> comprehension that may later be drawn upon before judge <strong>and</strong> jury, havevery <strong>of</strong>ten discouraged <strong>the</strong>-student at <strong>the</strong> outset <strong>and</strong> resulted in his turningto a much easier vocation. Not so, however, with <strong>the</strong> brilliant young cityattorney <strong>of</strong> Millen, who has been well <strong>and</strong> favorably known to <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong>this thriving <strong>Georgia</strong> community since 1907. He is possessed <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> zeal for<strong>and</strong> devotion to his pr<strong>of</strong>ession that make its every phase <strong>and</strong> departmentinteresting, while his strong, clear intellect has enabled him to readily grasp<strong>the</strong> many complexities <strong>of</strong> jurisprudence.Mr. Dekle was born in Emanuel County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, December 25, 1884, <strong>and</strong>is a son <strong>of</strong> M. S. <strong>and</strong> Beulah (Lee) Dekle. His fa<strong>the</strong>r, also a native <strong>of</strong> EmanuelCounty, has passed his entire life <strong>the</strong>re, having been engaged in operations asa farmer <strong>and</strong> planter, <strong>and</strong> through a life <strong>of</strong> industry, integrity, good management <strong>and</strong> thrift has accumulated a h<strong>and</strong>some property, which he has enhanced with modern, substantial buildings <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r up-to-date improvements. He still lives at his country home, aged fifty-four years. While Mr.Dekle has not been an <strong>of</strong>fice seeker, he has been a factor in <strong>the</strong> development<strong>of</strong> his community <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> management <strong>of</strong> its affairs, <strong>and</strong> has won <strong>the</strong> respect<strong>and</strong> regard <strong>of</strong> his fellow-citizens. Mrs. Dekle, who was born in Burke County,<strong>Georgia</strong>, still survives at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> forty-eight years. There were six daughters <strong>and</strong> three sons in <strong>the</strong> family, <strong>of</strong> whom Grover Clyde was <strong>the</strong> first born.As a lad Grover C. Dekle attended <strong>the</strong> public schools <strong>of</strong> McRae, <strong>Georgia</strong>,following which he went to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Normal Institute, located at Abbeville,<strong>Georgia</strong>, where he was graduated with <strong>the</strong> class <strong>of</strong> 1906. Having determined upon <strong>the</strong> law as <strong>the</strong> field for his activities, he entered <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Montgomery Laid, at Montgomery, Alabama, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>re applied himself so assiduously to his studies that he was soon prepared for his pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>and</strong> wasadmitted to <strong>the</strong> bar in 1907. Mr. Dekle began his career as an attorney atSwainsboro, <strong>Georgia</strong>, where he remained for something less than a year, <strong>and</strong>in <strong>the</strong> latter part <strong>of</strong> 1907 came to Millen, where he has since carried on alarge <strong>and</strong> constantly increasing practice. Brilliant eloquence <strong>and</strong> wit havebeen associated with <strong>the</strong> quiet <strong>and</strong> steady prudence which assures success, inMr. Dekle's uniformly prosperous career. He has a fluency <strong>of</strong> speech, aknowledge <strong>of</strong> men <strong>and</strong> a keen insight into character, qualities which enablehim to modify his plans to suit attending circumstances. In 1914 he waselected city attorney <strong>of</strong> Millen, a position in which he still serves <strong>and</strong> in whichhe has established a record for faithful <strong>and</strong> energetic service. One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>leading democrats <strong>of</strong> this section, he is at this time secretary <strong>and</strong> treasurer<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> democratic county executive committee. As a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> JenkinsCounty Bar Association, he is given opportunities <strong>of</strong> exchanging thoughtswith o<strong>the</strong>r bright intellects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Mr. Dekle's religious connection is with <strong>the</strong> Baptist Church.On December 25, 1907, Mr. Dekle was married at Millen, <strong>Georgia</strong>, toMiss Ellen Jones, daughter <strong>of</strong> Henry Jones, a well known resident <strong>of</strong> thisplace, <strong>and</strong> to this union <strong>the</strong>re have been born two children, namely: GroverClyde, Jr., born at Millen in 1909, <strong>and</strong> now attending <strong>the</strong> public school; <strong>and</strong>Hubert Emerson, who died at Millen at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> six months.HON. DANIEL WEBSTER KRAUSS. Prominent in <strong>the</strong> legal pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong>Glynn County st<strong>and</strong>s Hon. Daniel Webster Krauss, judge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> city courts <strong>of</strong>Brunswick. Not only'has he a reputation as a capable <strong>and</strong> forceful lawyerwhich extends throughout <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>astern part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state, <strong>and</strong> a record <strong>of</strong>twelve years <strong>of</strong> judicial service in which he has lent dignity to <strong>the</strong> bench, butthroughout his career he has always had deeply at heart <strong>the</strong> well-being <strong>and</strong> .improvement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> community, <strong>and</strong> has used his influence, whenever possiblefor <strong>the</strong> .promotion <strong>of</strong> industries <strong>and</strong> institutions calculated to be <strong>of</strong> lastingbenefit to this section.The entire career <strong>of</strong> Judge Krauss has been passed at Brunswick.
