Mrs. Larsen's mo<strong>the</strong>r was born in EmamielCounty, <strong>Georgia</strong>, in 1836 <strong>and</strong> died at Swainsboro in 1905. Four childrencomprise <strong>the</strong> family circle <strong>of</strong> Judge Larsen <strong>and</strong> wife: Walter Driscoll, bornat Swainsboro, January 2, 1900; W. W. Larsen, Jr., born at SwainsboroSeptember 23, 1905; Christine, who was born while her mo<strong>the</strong>r was visitingher parents at Sherman, Texas, October 28, 1907; <strong>and</strong> James Evans Larsen,who was born at' Statesboro, <strong>Georgia</strong>, 'October 3, 1909. Mrs. Larsen is activein <strong>the</strong> Baptist Church <strong>and</strong>' <strong>the</strong> Missionary Society, <strong>and</strong> is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Daughters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Confederacy.PAUL P. LANE, M. D. As general superintendent <strong>and</strong> chief surgeon <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Hospital at Waco, Doctor Lane has very heavyresponsibilities <strong>and</strong> is qualified for <strong>the</strong>m not only by sound ability <strong>and</strong> skillin his pr<strong>of</strong>ession but by a personal administrative capacity.The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Hospital is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> model railwayinstitutions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> South. It was established at Waycross in 1891 <strong>and</strong> is <strong>the</strong>main hospital for <strong>the</strong> service <strong>of</strong> employes <strong>of</strong> that large railway system. Thebuilding is modern in all its appointments <strong>and</strong> equipments, <strong>and</strong> contains anumber <strong>of</strong> private rooms toge<strong>the</strong>r with a large ward room, operating room<strong>and</strong> is complete in every department. This hospital is maintained for <strong>the</strong>benefit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sick <strong>and</strong> disabled employes <strong>and</strong> all those who receive severeinjuries in <strong>the</strong> service <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> railway are cared for here. The buildings occupya beautiful'site, with spacious lawns <strong>and</strong> parks surrounding it, affording anideal place for convalescents. The institution is conveniently situated as to<strong>the</strong> Waycross Station <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Atlantic Coast line <strong>and</strong> also <strong>the</strong> shops, whichhave about 1,500 men employed.As general superintendent Doctor Lane has gained <strong>the</strong> confidence <strong>and</strong>good will <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hundreds <strong>of</strong> railway men who have at different times beeninmates <strong>of</strong> this institution <strong>and</strong> with <strong>the</strong> help <strong>of</strong> his able assistants, DoctorDodson <strong>and</strong> Doctor Alex<strong>and</strong>er ha^ been able to maintain <strong>and</strong> build up <strong>the</strong>facilities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hospital <strong>and</strong> has given its surgical department in particular ahigh reputation for effective skill <strong>and</strong> efficiency.Paul P. Lane was born at Wilson, North Carolina, January 5, 1887. Ason <strong>of</strong> B. F. <strong>and</strong> Clara A. (Faircloth) Lane, both <strong>of</strong> whom were born inNorth Carolina <strong>and</strong> still living <strong>the</strong>re, <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> fifty-eight <strong>and</strong><strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r at fifty-four. His fa<strong>the</strong>r was for some years a farmer, but in- lateryears has been engaged in <strong>the</strong> cotton, oil <strong>and</strong> tobacco .business. The mo<strong>the</strong>ris a cultured woman who finished her education in Virginia. There were threechildren, Doctor Lane being <strong>the</strong> oldest. His bro<strong>the</strong>r J. J. Lane is connectedwith <strong>the</strong> North Carolina Fire Insurance Bureau <strong>and</strong> lives at Raleigh. RosserLane is still pursuing his studies <strong>and</strong> his home is at Wilson, North Carolina.As a boy Doctor Lane attended <strong>the</strong> Wilson High School <strong>and</strong> spent sometime as a student in <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> North Carolina, <strong>and</strong> was graduatedM. D. in 1908 from <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Medicine at Baltimore. For two yearshe served a$| an interne in James Walker Memorial Hospital at Bloomington,North Carolina. His ability brought him early favorable attention, <strong>and</strong> hewas SOOH called to <strong>the</strong> post <strong>of</strong> chief surgeon <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hospital <strong>and</strong> superintendent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> institution at Waycross.He is also well known among <strong>the</strong> general pr<strong>of</strong>ession in <strong>the</strong> state <strong>and</strong> ispresident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ware County Medical Society, a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn,<strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Eleventh District societies <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> American MedicalAssociation. He is a Master Mason <strong>and</strong> is affiliated with Ali Temple <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Mystic Shrine at Savannah. He also belongs to Waycross Lodge No. 369 <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> Benevolent <strong>and</strong> Protective Order <strong>of</strong> Elks. In politics he. is a democrat,<strong>and</strong> is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Methodist Episcopal Church. Dr. Lane isunmarried.
