J.Paulk has filled that <strong>of</strong>fice with utmost satisfaction <strong>and</strong> efficiency for <strong>the</strong> pastfive or six years, <strong>and</strong> is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enterprising arid best known younger citixens<strong>of</strong> Irwin County.He is a native <strong>of</strong> this county, having been born March 12. 1882, <strong>and</strong> bothhis parents, Lucius <strong>and</strong> Elizabeth (Vickers) Paulk, <strong>the</strong> former a native <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> same county <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> latter <strong>of</strong> C<strong>of</strong>fee County. His fa<strong>the</strong>r was bornJanuary 1, 1856, <strong>and</strong> during most <strong>of</strong> his active career was a farmer <strong>and</strong> stilllives on his country place in Irwin County. For sixteen years he served asa member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> County Board <strong>of</strong> Education. The mo<strong>the</strong>r died in 1887 whennot yet thirty years <strong>of</strong> age. She was <strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> four children: Mrs. AvaMcMillan, <strong>of</strong> Irwin County; Mrs. Teresa McMullen, <strong>of</strong> Tift; W. J., who is<strong>the</strong> only son, <strong>and</strong> Mrs. Alda Tucker, <strong>of</strong> Berrien County.As a boy W. J. Paulk had <strong>the</strong> usual experiences <strong>of</strong> a farmer lad <strong>and</strong>attended <strong>the</strong> public schools <strong>of</strong> Irwin County. He had his first experience inbusiness at a store in Ocilla where he remained six years, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>n in 1910gained <strong>the</strong> suffrage <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> Irwin County <strong>and</strong> was elected to his firstterm as clerk <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Superior Court. He has been re-elected <strong>and</strong> has servedconsecutively since that year, receiving a renomination in April, 1916, without opposition. He is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading democrats <strong>of</strong> Irwin County.On November 23, 1910, he married Miss Lelia Story, <strong>of</strong> Abbeville, <strong>Georgia</strong>,daughter <strong>of</strong> Llewellyn Story, <strong>of</strong> Abbeville. They are <strong>the</strong> parents <strong>of</strong> twochildren: Reba May, born September 1, 1911, at Ocilla; <strong>and</strong> Clarice Verda,born January 28, 1913, at Ocilla.WILLIAM ANSEL ADAMS. Possessing <strong>the</strong> distinction <strong>of</strong> being <strong>the</strong> firstdemocrat to be appointed postmaster <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> thriving City <strong>of</strong> Fitzgerald,<strong>Georgia</strong>, William Ansel Adams also holds prestige as <strong>the</strong> youngest postmasterin an <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> its class in <strong>the</strong> State <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>. For some years, up to <strong>the</strong> time<strong>of</strong> his appointment to his <strong>of</strong>ficial position, he was well known in businesscircles as <strong>the</strong> proprietor <strong>of</strong> Adams C<strong>and</strong>y Kitchen, an enterprise which hebuilt up from modest beginning to large proportions, <strong>and</strong> established an excellent reputation in commercial circles as a live, energetic man <strong>of</strong> business, wh<strong>of</strong>ound time to spare from his personal affairs to devote to matters in which<strong>the</strong> community was interested. Since becoming postmaster he has laboredfaithfully <strong>and</strong> with good results to better <strong>the</strong> mail service.Mr. Adams is a Texan by nativity, having been born at Temple, in <strong>the</strong>Lone Star state, November 14, 1882, a son <strong>of</strong> James Ansel <strong>and</strong> Betty (Luke)Adams, natives <strong>of</strong> Mitchell County, <strong>Georgia</strong>. The paternal gr<strong>and</strong>fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong>"William Ansel Adams, Adam Adams, was born in <strong>Georgia</strong>, in 1822, <strong>and</strong> fora number <strong>of</strong> years followed farming in Mitchell County, this state.
