2928 GEORGIA AND GEORGIANSwas born in Wilkinson County, a daughter <strong>of</strong> Archibald McCallum, <strong>and</strong> shedied when <strong>the</strong> doctor was a child <strong>of</strong> four years. The doctor was <strong>the</strong> fourth <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> five children, all sons, <strong>of</strong> Alex<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong> Addie (McCallum) Dawson, <strong>and</strong><strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r ultimately contracted a second marriage, by his union with MaggieHorn, who likewise is deceased. Of <strong>the</strong> five children <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first union John E.<strong>and</strong> James are deceased, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> three who survive are Doctor Dawson <strong>of</strong> thissketch; Homer, who is a resident <strong>of</strong> Atlanta <strong>and</strong> who holds <strong>the</strong> position <strong>of</strong>locomotive engineer on <strong>the</strong> Western <strong>and</strong> Atlantic Railroad; <strong>and</strong> McCallum,who is a retired bookkeeper <strong>and</strong> a resident <strong>of</strong> Poplar Springs, Dekalb County.Of <strong>the</strong> children <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> second marriage three are living, Cornelia, who is <strong>the</strong>wife <strong>of</strong> Samuel II. Hape, <strong>of</strong> Hapeville, Fulton County; Miss Leanna, whomaintains her home in Atlanta; <strong>and</strong> Anna Belle, who is <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> Robert P.Malier, <strong>of</strong> Andersonville, this state.Dr. Dawson was a lad <strong>of</strong> about ten years at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> family removalfrom Wilkiiison County to Atlanta, <strong>and</strong> in this city he has maintained hishome during <strong>the</strong> long intervening years. Here he was afforded <strong>the</strong> advantages <strong>of</strong> an excellent private school, in which he completed his academic education, <strong>and</strong> on <strong>the</strong> 4th <strong>of</strong> March, 1891, he was graduated in <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Medical College in Atlanta, from which admirable institution he received hisdegree <strong>of</strong> Doctor <strong>of</strong> Medicine. He has since given his close attention to <strong>the</strong>general practice <strong>of</strong> medicine <strong>and</strong> surgery <strong>and</strong> has at all times kept abreastwith <strong>the</strong> advances made along pr<strong>of</strong>essional lines, an effective post-graduatecourse having been completed by him in <strong>the</strong> New York Polyclinic, in 1896,<strong>and</strong> careful study being given to <strong>the</strong> best st<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>and</strong> periodical literature<strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Definite technical <strong>and</strong> material success has attended <strong>the</strong>efforts <strong>of</strong> Doctor Dawson, who controls a substantial <strong>and</strong> important practice,<strong>and</strong> his prosperity has been augmented, his good judgment manifested throughhis investment in Atlanta real estate, besides which he is <strong>the</strong> owne'r <strong>of</strong> a wellimproved farm near Silver Lake, Dekalb County, this property being situatedtwelve miles distant from Atlanta. To this country estate he has given <strong>the</strong>name <strong>of</strong> Silver Springs, owing to its having fine springs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> purest crystalwater. The doctor takes great interest in this rural estate <strong>and</strong> his intentionis to develop <strong>the</strong> same into a model demesne which shall ultimately constitutehis permanent home. The springs on <strong>the</strong> place give a water <strong>of</strong> fine medicinal<strong>and</strong> remedial qualities, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> purity <strong>and</strong> sparkle <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> water make it idealfor table use, so that <strong>the</strong>re is all <strong>of</strong> opportunity for <strong>the</strong> doctor to develop apr<strong>of</strong>itable enterprise in <strong>the</strong> bottling <strong>and</strong> sale <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> product.Dr. Dawson is affiliated with <strong>the</strong> Masonic fraternity, is a stanch democratin his political proclivities <strong>and</strong> his religious faith is that <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> BaptistChurch. lie is identified with <strong>the</strong> Fulton County Medical Society, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> State Medical Society <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> American Medical Association. He hasthus far permitted his name to be continuously enrolled upon <strong>the</strong> list <strong>of</strong> eligible bachelors in <strong>the</strong> capital city <strong>of</strong> his native state. .JOHN BROADUS NORMAN. Although one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> younger members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>legal pr<strong>of</strong>ession in Ben Hill Countj^, J. Broadus Norman has alreadyattained an established position in its ranks, his years seeming no bar to hisability. In fact <strong>the</strong>re is so much more dem<strong>and</strong>ed <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> law graduate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>present than in years past that <strong>the</strong> young legist enters upon his work wellequipped to meet its arduous <strong>and</strong> responsible duties, <strong>and</strong> in his short period<strong>of</strong> practice Mr. Norman has won <strong>the</strong> confidence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> public <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> patronage <strong>of</strong> a large <strong>and</strong> representative clientele.Mr. Norman was born in Warren County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, October 29, 1891, <strong>and</strong>is a son <strong>of</strong> Jesse Mercer <strong>and</strong> Ella (Hawes) Norman. The Norman family isa large <strong>and</strong> prominent one <strong>of</strong> Wilkes <strong>and</strong> Warren counties, <strong>Georgia</strong>, but originated in Virginia, from whence came <strong>the</strong> gr<strong>and</strong>parents <strong>of</strong> Mr. Norman,William B. <strong>and</strong> Sarah (Jackson) Norman.
