He is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> American MedicalAssociation, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> State Medical Association, <strong>the</strong> First CongressionalDistrict Medical. Society <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Burke County Medical Society. He hasserved as county physician since 1913 <strong>and</strong> in this capacity has done much toconserve public health <strong>and</strong> to institute needed sanitary improvements. He isa director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Waynesboro Savings Bank, <strong>of</strong> which he was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>organizers <strong>and</strong> incorporators, <strong>and</strong> is also a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> directorate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Bank <strong>of</strong> Waynesboro.The basic principles for which <strong>the</strong> democratic party has ever stood sponsor, received <strong>the</strong> stanch support <strong>of</strong> .Doctor Macaulay, <strong>and</strong> he has giveneffective service in behalf <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> party cause, though he has had no predilectionfor political <strong>of</strong>fice. In <strong>the</strong> York Rite <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> time-honored Masonic fraternity he has received <strong>the</strong> chivalric degrees <strong>and</strong> is affiliated with <strong>the</strong> Waynesboro Comm<strong>and</strong>ery <strong>of</strong> Knight Templars, besides being identified also with <strong>the</strong>adjunct Masonic organization, <strong>the</strong> Ancient Arabic Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nobles <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Mystic Shrine. He holds membership in <strong>the</strong> Methodist Episcopal Church,South, <strong>and</strong> his enthusiasm in connection with outdoor sports is indicated byhis membership in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Field Trial Association, <strong>the</strong> ranks <strong>of</strong> whichinclude many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading <strong>Georgia</strong> devotees <strong>of</strong> hunting <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r sportsafield <strong>and</strong> afloat. The doctor is unmarried.On <strong>the</strong> 21st <strong>of</strong> September, 1916, Doctor Macaulay married ElizabethMcMastee, a daughter <strong>of</strong> Hugh Rudson <strong>and</strong> Rosa (Moore) McMastee. Thefa<strong>the</strong>r, who is now deceased, was a physician.D. J. HENDERSON, JE. Though not yet thirty-five years <strong>of</strong> age, D. J. Henderson,Jr., is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> best known bankers in Irwin County <strong>and</strong> one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>youngest bank presidents in Sou<strong>the</strong>rn <strong>Georgia</strong>. He is president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Citizens Bank <strong>of</strong> Ocilla.Banking has really been his entire career, since he gained his first practicalexperience in business affairs as a boy clerk in a bank at Ocilla. The CitizensBank <strong>of</strong> Ocilla was organized in 1906 <strong>and</strong> its first <strong>of</strong>ficers were William Hcnderson,president; J. A. Pruett, vice president; <strong>and</strong> D. J. Henderson, Jr.,cashier.Mr. Henderson was born in Irwin County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, September 1, 1881,<strong>the</strong> oldest <strong>of</strong> three children born to R. L. <strong>and</strong> Margaret (Young) Henderson.His parents were also natives <strong>of</strong> Irwin County <strong>and</strong> both are still living at <strong>the</strong>age <strong>of</strong> fifty-five. His fa<strong>the</strong>r has been a practical farmer for many years.As a boy D. J. Henderson, Jr., attended <strong>the</strong> local schools <strong>of</strong> Ocilla, <strong>and</strong>on leaving school entered <strong>the</strong> Bank <strong>of</strong> Ocilla as a minor clerk. He was withthat institution from 1899 to 1906, when <strong>the</strong> Bank <strong>of</strong> Ocilla was absorbed in<strong>the</strong> new organization, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Citizens Bank, <strong>and</strong> he was elected cashier <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>new institution. In 1912 he was fur<strong>the</strong>r promoted from <strong>the</strong> cashiership to <strong>the</strong>vice presidency, <strong>and</strong> since 1915 he has been president. The Citizens Bank hasa capital stock <strong>of</strong> $52,000 with surplus <strong>of</strong> $5,000.Mr. Henderson is a Knight Templar Mason <strong>and</strong> Shriner, is a democrat inpolitics <strong>and</strong> a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Baptist Church. On June 28, 1905, he marriedMiss Nellie Dorminey <strong>of</strong> Fitzgerald, daughter <strong>of</strong> A. S. Dorminey, who residesin Ben Hill County. To <strong>the</strong>ir marriage have been born two children: William Bailey <strong>and</strong> Martha Eleanor, <strong>the</strong> former born in 1910 <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> latter in1913, both in Ocilla.HON.
