This is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>finest post<strong>of</strong>fices for a city o£ <strong>the</strong> size <strong>of</strong> Tifton in <strong>the</strong> state, <strong>the</strong> edifice havingbeeu completed in August, 1014. Under Mr. Bennett's jurisdiction are fourrural carriers, one motor carrier <strong>and</strong> three city carriers, five clerks <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>assistant postmaster.Mr. Bermett is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Masons <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Benevolent <strong>and</strong> Protective Order <strong>of</strong> Elks, <strong>and</strong> with his family belongs to <strong>the</strong> Methodist EpiscopalChurch,On June 7, 1903, Mr. Bennett was married in AVorth County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, toMiss Sarah Ca<strong>the</strong>rin Warren, -a. member <strong>of</strong> a well known <strong>and</strong> highly esteemedfamily <strong>of</strong> Worth County, <strong>and</strong> daughter <strong>of</strong> J. A. arid Martha Warren, a prominent planter <strong>of</strong> that locality. They are <strong>the</strong> parents <strong>of</strong>'two children: Eleanor,born October 9, 1906; <strong>and</strong> William Franklin, born March 5, 1909, <strong>and</strong> bothattending school at Tifton.HON. C. "W. CRAVES. Since <strong>the</strong> year 1908, Hon. C. W. Graves has been<strong>the</strong> incumbent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> ordinary at Tiftoii, Tift County, anj} during<strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> his <strong>of</strong>ficial service has established a record for judicial rectitude, dignity, impartiality <strong>and</strong> energy that entitles him.to a position among<strong>the</strong> foremost men who have held public <strong>of</strong>fice in this locality. His career isillustrative <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rewards to he gained through a life <strong>of</strong> probity <strong>and</strong> industry,for he commenced life with only ordinary advantages <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> success whichhe has attained has come through his own efforts.Judge Graves was born in Thomas County, in <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn part <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>,in March, 1818, <strong>and</strong> ia a son <strong>of</strong> Joel S. <strong>and</strong> Eunice (Wooden) Graves. Hisparents, natives <strong>of</strong> New York State, emigrated to Florida, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>n to <strong>Georgia</strong>, <strong>and</strong> settled at an early period in Thomas County. Joel S. Graves was aplanter by vocation, a man <strong>of</strong> industry <strong>and</strong> strong character, who accumulateda satisfying property through energy <strong>and</strong> honorable dealing <strong>and</strong> in later lifebecame a minister <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Presbyterian faith. He died in Worth County,<strong>Georgia</strong>, whence lie had removed in his later years, in 1897, being seventyeightyears <strong>of</strong> a#e. The mo<strong>the</strong>r had passed away in that county two yearsbefore, when seventy years <strong>of</strong> age. They were <strong>the</strong> parents o£ eight children,<strong>of</strong> whom C. "W. was <strong>the</strong> sixth in order <strong>of</strong> birth.C. W. Graves attended <strong>the</strong> public schools <strong>of</strong> Thomas County as a boy<strong>and</strong> spent his youth in assisting his fa<strong>the</strong>r in <strong>the</strong> duties pertaining to <strong>the</strong>operation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> homestead plantation. As a young man he turned his attention to .mercantile lines, in which he continued to be engaged for some years,but eventually returned to farming <strong>and</strong> accumulated a good property. Priorto <strong>the</strong> lor ma lion <strong>of</strong> Tift County, he served in <strong>the</strong> capacity <strong>of</strong> tax receiver forWorth County for a period <strong>of</strong> six years, <strong>and</strong> in 1908 was elector! ordinary.The able manner in which he discharged his duties during his first term<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice led to two re-elections, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> confidence in which he is held by <strong>the</strong>people was demonstrated at <strong>the</strong> last election, when he had no opposition for<strong>the</strong> position. In <strong>the</strong> h<strong>and</strong>s <strong>of</strong> such public servants <strong>the</strong> individual <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>community may feel that every interest is safe <strong>and</strong> that law will be administered with <strong>the</strong> broadest intelligence <strong>and</strong> with a keen regard for equity. A man<strong>of</strong> unimpeachable character, <strong>of</strong> strong intellect, patience, urbanity, <strong>and</strong> athorough underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> human nature <strong>and</strong> human rights, Judge Gravesbrings to <strong>the</strong> discharge <strong>of</strong> his duties <strong>the</strong> very highest qualifications, <strong>and</strong> hisrecord as ordinary has been in harmony with his record in business <strong>and</strong>agricultural, circles, distinguished by unswerving integrity <strong>and</strong> probity.Politically, <strong>the</strong> judge has always been an advocate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> highest principles<strong>and</strong> aims <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> democratic party. His fraternal connection is with <strong>the</strong>Masons, <strong>and</strong> his religious affiliation with <strong>the</strong> Methodist Episcopal Chureli,South.
