Reese on July 6, 1869.Six children were born to Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. Reese; one who died in infancy;Bdear Hervey, who is an accountant at Eatonton; Joseph Hugh, an editor <strong>of</strong>Orl<strong>and</strong>o Florida; Millard; Rowell S., in <strong>the</strong> traffic department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Piedmont <strong>and</strong> Nor<strong>the</strong>rn Railroad, at Greenville, South Carolina; <strong>and</strong> NannieLouie <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> James M. Jdhnston, <strong>of</strong> Kissimmee, Florida.Millard Reese received his primary education in <strong>the</strong> public schools <strong>of</strong>Eatonton <strong>and</strong> Conyers, <strong>Georgia</strong>, <strong>and</strong> in* 1896-7 was a student in <strong>the</strong> literarydepartment <strong>of</strong> Mercer University; He first came to Brunswick January 4,1900, <strong>and</strong> entered a law <strong>of</strong>fice as stenographer, but in 1902 reentered MercerUniversity as a student <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> law department, <strong>and</strong> wag graduated <strong>the</strong>refromJune 3, 1903. Upon his graduation he was admitted to <strong>the</strong> bar <strong>and</strong> on April1 1904,' formed a partnership with Frank Elmore Twitty, under <strong>the</strong> firm style<strong>of</strong> Twitty & Reese, this continuing until January 1, 1910, when his presentfirm was formed under <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Bennet, Twitty & Reese, Joseph W. Bennetbeing <strong>the</strong> senior.Mr. Reese belongs to <strong>the</strong> Glynn County Bar Association <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>State Bar Association. He represented Glynn County in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Legislature for one term, 1909-10. This is <strong>the</strong> only political <strong>of</strong>fice for which heever <strong>of</strong>fered. He is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Baptist Church, <strong>and</strong> belongs to SigmaAlpha Epsilon College fraternity.Mr. Reese was married January 23, 1907, at LaGrange, <strong>Georgia</strong>, to EmmaLeila Callaway, sister <strong>of</strong> Frank E. Callaway, a prominent Atlanta lawyer,<strong>and</strong> daughter <strong>of</strong> Rev. S. Pope <strong>and</strong> Ellen (Pattillo) Callaway. Mr. Callaway,<strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r, who is now deceased, was for many years a leading divine <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Baptist Church, <strong>and</strong> both <strong>the</strong> Callaway <strong>and</strong> Pattillo families have contributednoted men <strong>and</strong> accomplished women to <strong>Georgia</strong>. Mrs. Callaway, who stillsurvives her husb<strong>and</strong>, makes her home at LaGrange. Mrs. Reese, like herhusb<strong>and</strong>, is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Baptist Church.LEMUEL BOND NORTON. One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leading attorneys <strong>of</strong> Lithonia, witha high reputation as an advocate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Stone Mountain Circuit <strong>and</strong> as apractitioner at <strong>the</strong> Atlanta bar, Lemuel Bond Norton, like many <strong>of</strong> his contemporaries in <strong>the</strong> law, is a product <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> farm. His success in his chosenpr<strong>of</strong>ession is all <strong>the</strong> more remarkable <strong>and</strong> commendable in that he never enjoyed <strong>the</strong> advantages <strong>of</strong> a collegiate education, his mastery <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> law <strong>and</strong>its many complexities having been self gained. Since his entrance into pro-"fessional life, in 1894, his advancement has been continuous, <strong>and</strong> at varioustimes he has been called upon to serve in <strong>of</strong>ficial capacities at Lithonia, wherehe makes his home.Mr. Norton was born on a farm in Dekalb County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, January 25,1869, <strong>and</strong> is a son <strong>of</strong> Jabez A. <strong>and</strong> Rachel (Carroll) Norton, <strong>the</strong> latter beinga member <strong>of</strong> a well known family <strong>of</strong> Gwinnett County, <strong>Georgia</strong>, where several<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> name own large plantations. Jabez A. Norton was born in RockdaleCounty, <strong>Georgia</strong>, in 1843, <strong>and</strong> when <strong>the</strong> war between <strong>the</strong> states came onenlisted in Cobb's Legion, in <strong>the</strong> Confederate service, <strong>and</strong> served throughout<strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> conflict. He participated in numerous important engagements,including <strong>the</strong> battle <strong>of</strong> Seven Pines, where he was wounded <strong>and</strong> capturedby <strong>the</strong> enemy, <strong>and</strong> for a time was confined in a nor<strong>the</strong>rn prison at Baltimore.When <strong>the</strong> war was over he returned t'o his home <strong>and</strong> soon took up farmingin Dekalb County, where he successfully operated during his active life. Fortwenty years prior to his death Mr. Norton served in <strong>the</strong> capacity <strong>of</strong> marshal<strong>of</strong> Lithonia. He was a consistent Methodist <strong>and</strong> a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Masonicfraternity, <strong>and</strong> in his death, which occurred in 1912, Lithonia lost one <strong>of</strong> itsbest citizens <strong>and</strong> one who had <strong>the</strong> welfare <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> community at heart. Mrs.Norton died in 1889, at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> fifty-six years. She had been formerlymarried to J. W. Phillips, by whom she had two sons: J. W., deceased, who
