EXECUTIVE SUMMARYIn order to gain a better understanding ofthe situation facing greyhounds at the MacauCanidrome, GREY2K USA conducted ananalysis of the dogs currently racing at thetrack. 1• As of December 8, 2011, there were atotal of 655 greyhounds listed on theCanidrome’s website 2• A majority of the dogs were female (56%),primarily black in color (53%), and betweenthree and five years old (53%)Greyhounds at the Macau Canidrome. SECTION 1:DEMOGRAPHICSOver half (370 or 56%) of the greyhounds at the Canidrome were female. The remaining 272 dogs, or 42%,were male. 4unavailable2%Gendermales42%females56%A majority of the dogs were between one and five years of age. Specifically, 599 or 93% of the dogs were lessthan five years old. Another 42 (6.5%) of the dogs were between five to seven years old. There were two dogslisted as seven years or older; however neither of them have recent racing histories. SECTION 3:OWNERSThe dogs listed on the Canidrome’s website are owned by a variety of different individuals. The owner with thegreatest number of dogs as of December 8, 2011 was MYC (95 dogs). MYC is actually the Macau Canidrometrack itself. 11 Other owners with large shares of dogs were A lot of investment adviser (36), Gold Group II (33),King Ho (32), Alfred Mak (31), and Yao Zhiwen (27).Greyhounds at the Macau Canidrome. SECTION 4:INJURIESThe number and type of injuries sustained by dogs racing at Macau were analyzed for the time period ofOctober 21, 2011 through December 31, 2011. A total of 302 dogs suffered injuries during this time period,amounting to almost half of the total Canidrome greyhound population. SECTION 4:INJURIESFifty-two greyhounds (17.2%) experienced multiple injuries during the period of October 21 through December31, 2011. For example:• A two-year-old black greyhound named Grove Enforcer suffered shoulder muscle myositis and wrist sprainson November 14, 2011.
