Thirty percent of households own a bicycle (20 percentin urban areas <strong>and</strong> 34 percent in rural areas), while only3 percent own a car <strong>and</strong> less than one percent own a motorcycle.Among the household possessions listed above, thebicycle is the only possession that is more common in ruralareas than in urban areas. As part of the Household Questionnaire, respondents were asked if, in the last 12months, any member had been denied care from a health facility because they could not pay <strong>and</strong> whether anymember was unable to obtain prescribed medicine because they could not pay. Table 2.9 shows thepercentage of households answering these questions affirmatively, by selected background characteristics.According to this table, 21 percent of households reported that a household member was denied care from ahealth facility because they were unable to pay (22 percent in urban areas <strong>and</strong> 20 percent in rural areas).Characteristics of Households <strong>and</strong> Respondents | 23
