<strong>MSC</strong> <strong>85</strong>/<strong>26</strong>/<strong>Add.2</strong><strong>ANNEX</strong> 3Page 368APPENDIX 3PROPERTIES OF SOLID BULK CARGOES1 Non-cohesive cargoes1.1 The following cargoes are non-cohesive when dry:AMMONIUM NITRATEAMMONIUM NITRATE BASED FERTILIZERS (TYPE A, TYPE B andNON-HAZARDO<strong>US</strong>)AMMONIUM SULPHATEBORAX, anhydrousCALCIUM NITRATE FERTILIZERCASTOR BEANSDIAMMONIUM PHOSPHATEMONOAMMONIUM PHOSPHATEPOTASSIUM CHLORIDEPOTASHPOTASSIUM NITRATEPOTASSIUM SULPHATESODIUM NITRATESODIUM NITRATE AND POTASSIUM NITRATE MIXTURESUPERPHOSPHATEUREA1.2 Prior to completion of loading, the angle of repose of the materials to be loaded should bedetermined (see section 6) so as to determine which provisions of this Code relating to trimmingapply (see section 5).1.3 All cargoes, other than those listed in this appendix, are cohesive and the use of the angleof repose is, therefore, not appropriate. Cargoes not listed should be treated as cohesive untilotherwise shown.2 Cargoes which may liquefy2.1 Many fine-particled cargoes if possessing a sufficiently high moisture content are liable toflow. Thus any damp or wet cargo containing a proportion of fine particles should be tested forflow characteristics prior to loading.3 Precautions for the cargoes which may possess a chemical hazard3.1 In circumstances where consultation with the competent authority is required prior toshipment of dry bulk cargoes, it is equally important to consult authorities at the port of loadingand discharge concerning requirements which may be in force.3.2 Where required, the Medical First Aid Guide for Use in Accidents Involving DangerousGoods (MFAG) should be consulted prior to loading.I:\<strong>MSC</strong>\<strong>85</strong>\<strong>26</strong>-Add-2.doc
