FTLOTGREWARD FOR EXCELLENCEAfter starting the year 10-0 it was great rewardfor Old Xaverians U19 coach and 2011 juniorcoach of the year Tom Maul to be named asthe coach of the Big V U18 side that will travelto New Zealand at the end of the season.Perhaps the news went to Tom’s head as hisside had an uncharacteristic downer lastweek, suffering their first loss of the season.I am told that Tom’s appointment is not introuble and he will definitely be making theflight on 5th October four day trip take on acombined Kiwi. .100% IN NEW ZEALAND AFLThis will be the fourth team we have sent a teamto New Zealand to take on a combined AFLNZ U20 side. We will play their representativeside twice in games on Saturday and Mondayand it’s a great opportunity for our youngestplayers to experience representative football.The side will be announced later this seasonand all players must be eligible for under-18football. It will be our fourth trip to NewZealand and let’s hope the Kiwis haven’timproved too much as we have never lostto them, here’s to keeping our 100% recordintact.CLUB XVIII – TO PLAY IN AUGUSTSeptember footy is what many of us play for.Not so for the Club XVIII sides. The aim forthese teams is to be playing football in the lastweeks of August that’s when finals are played.The heart and soul of many clubs is the ClubXVIII team. The team is often filled with clublegends that just can’t leave the game, butmore importantly, for those of us that still wanta serious game of footy at a more manageablepace. For the clubs chasing club XVIII glory thisyear the business end of the season is upon us.Finals start on the weekend of 11/12 Augustand this year Club XVIII (1) will feature a sixteam finals series with two preliminary finalsto be played to determine the competingclubs for the last dance. All prelims and grandfinals will be played at Sportscover Arena, sofor those of us that love finals fever you can geta sample taste before we tick over to spring.6 th ANNUAL BIG V LUNCHWas a huge success again this year – heldlast Friday 6 July, we will have more storiesfrom the day and coverage on the new Big VChampion Inductees in next week’s FTLOTGVAFA TV’S STRONGEST MAN COMPETITIONIf you have been watching VAFA TV in recent weeks you will have seen the new segment VAFATV’s Strongest Man.
