Ten goals up at half time Collegiansmaintained the pressure on the Monds for theremainder of the match. Best – Hoyle, Galbraith(4), Irvine, Lake, Hinchen, Mount (Collegians)and Fraser, P McDonald, Barnes, Clark, Wood,Grace (Ormond).In B Section Old Mentonians and Uni Bluesplayed a thriller before Mentonians held on towin 10.15 to 10.13. Uni Blues had trailed all dayand every time they challenged, Mentonianshad the answers in an entertaining game. Best– Gardner, Farrow, Scott, Campbell, Barrett,Beynon (Mentonians) and Worsley, Stevenson,Wallis, Lennen (4), Furphy, Kanis (Blues).B Section senior coaches were – John Simpson(Banyule), Brian Ford (Monash Blues), MarkParker (Old Brighton), Paul O’Brien (OldMelburnians), Bert Calvert (Old Mentonians),Michael Mulvahill (Old Paradians), Alan Johnson(Old Trinity), Bruce Ferguson (Parkside), GeoffReilley (Whitefriars).30 YEARS AGO – 1982Therry defeated Elsternwick in a high scoringE Section game, 26.18 to 17.11. Therry wereclearly the better side all day and it was animpressive display. Best – Weir, Murcutt (6),White, Boden, Fisher (4), Jacobsen (Therry) andT J<strong>one</strong>s (7), Rosewarne (3), D Mahony (3), Bell,O’Donnell, Bean (Elsternwick).Peninsula Old Boys ‘kicked the sweep” in FSection with 31.14 to Clayton’s 17.16, a matchwhich kept the ‘goalies’ busy. Clayton actuallykicked 9.6 in the final quarter while Peninsulakicked 10.2. Geoff Tunbridge was best for the Bluesand was later to be <strong>one</strong> of the stars in thegreat Melbourne VFL premiership teams inthe 1950’s. Dave Hilliard starred for Old Scotchdespite their loss.Foundation member of the Club, Bill Lucas,played his 100 th game for St Kevins Old Boys.33
