DIVISION 2Rich HummerstonHUMMER’S 7In the top echelons of football, oppositionanalysis is big business; it’s a vital ingredient tothe success of any AFL club. Dedicated teams ofassistant coaches work 3 weeks ahead, travellingthe country to identify every potential match-upand every potential deficiency. While the constraints of Division 2 footballprobably don’t allow for the same money orresources to be allocated to the practice, theattributes of the seven names below will havebeen addressed at countless trainings andpresumably all have their own magnet on theoppositions board. The below 7 players, who after 11 rounds, havebeen deemed the most dominant and influentialplayers in the competition. Their names whenechoed around suburban football grounds sendsupporters and oppositions into contrastingfrenzies.Sabastian Ciavola – ElthamIn stature and appearance, you’d be forgiven ifyou mistook Sab for a Back-Pocket on the cuspof senior selection. Fortunately for the Turtles, looks are incredibly deceiving. Playing like a mantwice his size, Ciavola has pocketed 41 goals thisseason and not many goal assists. Without everseeing his hands up close, I can only assumethey dwarf Stewie Lowe’s, for his marking abilityis unparalleled.Kye Cherien – Monash GryphonsThe dashing utility resumed the season in thesame stellar form that saw him awarded thebest and fairest in 2012. While often attractinga defensive tag, Cherien considers it but a minorhindrance, his speed and agility often leavingthe tagger perplexed and unaccountable.Traditionally a defender, Cherien can be justas damaging up forward with his incredibleathleticism and questionable kicking style.Sam Autio – St Mary’s SalesianMany will argue his inclusion is down to onespectacular performance that netted 16 goals, however a quick gander down his stats forseason 2012 will quickly quash that argument.Despite a broken collarbone bringing his seasonto a premature finish, Autio has frequented inthe best for St Mary’s and has decimated manya backline. Marry this with his under-18’s NThonours and his inclusion to the illustrious 7 iswarranted.Adam Sleight – Prahran-AssumptionJoining Ciavola as the second Full-Forwardselected, the skipper from Prahran fills themould of your traditional full-forward. “6 foot 4and full of muscle” Sleight has been terrorisinghapless Full-Backs for years. Instrumental forPrahran in last year’s premiership, the manmountain clunks the pill at will and can kick aSherrin into orbit. Although age is starting totake its vengeful course, most notably in thespeed department, the veteran is still up therewith the competitions elite.David Boundy – Old ParadiansIn my opinion, the captain coach from the city’sNorth should be leading the competitions bestand fairest. While “selflessly” playing himselfas a loose man in defence has undoubtedlyincreased his stocks, his versatility enables himto play on any line on the ground. As a coach, and a player, Boundy is a true student of thegame and his name will be forever etched in thehistory at Old Paradians Football Club.James Musster – Prahran-AssumptionMusster plays the game as if he was a playerfrom the 80’s, rugged and ruthless, the stockymidfielder is no stranger to an innocuous jumperTODAY SELECTIONS IN BOLDBulleen Templestowe v Monash GryphonsEltham Collegians v Prahran AssumptionOld Paradians v Emmaus St LeosSouth Melb Districts v Therry PenolaSt Mary’s Salesian v La Trobe University6 THE AMATEUR FOOTBALLER 2012SPORTS INJURY CASUALTY - 316 Malvern Road, Prahran
