Dugternesætter sig, ståltovet forlænger sig. Desuden formindskesdiameteren lidt, da dugterne og hjertet presses sammen.Ståltovet vil således være mindre udsat for skader, nårmaksimal belastning anvendes. Den tid, der benyttes tilindkøringen af ståltovet, bliver tjent ind igen mange gange, idetståltovet får længere levetid.Vedligeholdelse af føringsudstyrOrdentlig vedligeholdelse af udstyret, som ståltovet har kontaktmed, har stor betydning for ståltovets levetid. Slidte skivespor,styreruller m.m., skæve skiver og fastsiddende lejer resultererbl.a. i chokbelastning og vibrationer i ståltovet, hvilket haren ødelæggende effekt på ståltovet med unormalt slid ogudmattelse til følge.Udstyr, som ståltovet har kontakt med, skal inspiceresregelmæssigt. Hvis udstyret ikke er i orden, skal det omgåendeudskiftes evt. repareres. Ved reparation af føringsudstyret vedsvejsning skal man sørge for, at hårdheden på svejsematerialeter ca. 300 Brinel, således at man får sliddet på føringsudstyreti stedet for på ståltovet (se også afsnittet “Kontrol afføringsudstyr”).Running in Steel Wire RopeAfter the steel wire rope has been installed, Fyns Kran UdstyrA/S recommends that it is run through the system severaltimes at low speed and moderate loading (e.g. 5% of tensilestrength). In this way the steel wire rope will gradually becomeaccustomed to the new conditions. The strands will settle, thesteel wire rope will lengthen and the diameter will decreasea little due to the fact that the strands and the core arecompressed. The steel wire rope will thus be less susceptibleto damage when maximum load is applied. The time spent“running-in” the steel wire rope will be earned many time over,as the steel wire rope will thus have a longer life expectancy.Maintenance of Guidance EquipmentThorough maintenance of the equipment that the steel wirerope will come into contact with is of great significance for thesteel wire rope’s life expectancy. Worn sheaf grooves, guiderolls, etc., crooked sheaves and jammed bearings all result insuch effects as shock load and vibrations in the steel wire rope.Shock load and vibrations have a destructive effect on the steelwire rope, resulting in exaggerated wear and tear and fatigue.Equipment, contacting the steel wire rope, must be inspectedregularly. If there is a problem with the equipment, it must bereplaced or repaired immediately. If the guidance equipmentis repaired by welding, care should be taken to ensure thathardness of the welding material is approx. 300 Brinel, so thatit is the sheaf that is worn, and not the steel wire rope (see thesection: “Inspection of Guidance Equipment”).Kontrol og vedligeholdelseVedligeholdelse af ståltovetDen olie/fedt, som ståltovet tilføres under fremstillingen,beskytter kun ståltovet under opbevaringen og den første tidsbrug. Ståltovet skal derfor eftersmøres regelmæssigt.Ordentlig eftersmøring er meget vigtig for ståltovet levetid,idet smøringen har til formål dels at beskytte ståltovet modrust, dels at reducere friktionen mellem trådene og dugternei ståltovet. Desuden nedsættes friktionen mellem ståltovet ogde flader, som ståltovet berører.Smøremidlet, der skal anvendes til eftersmøringen, skal værefri for syrer og må ikke have skadelig indvirkning på hverkenståltråde og/eller fiberhjertet samt miljø. Smøremidlet skalhave en konsistens som gør, at smøremidlet trænger ind ihjertet og dugten. Ståltovet skal rengøres før eftersmøringen.Inspection and MaintenanceMaintenance of Steel Wire RopeThe oil/grease that is added to the steel wire rope duringproduction is only sufficient to protect the steel wire rope duringthe storage period and initial use. The steel wire rope must belubricated regularly.Thorough lubrication is extremely important for the steel wirerope’s life expectancy, as the purpose of lubrication is partlyto protect the steel wire rope against rust and partly to reducefriction between the wires and the strands in the steel wirerope. Friction is also thereby reduced between the steel wirerope and the surfaces, it contacts.The lubricant used, must be free of acids and must not havea destructive effect on the steel wires, the fibre core andthe environment. The lubricant must have a consistency thatenables it to penetrate the core and the strands.
